2002 Bali Bombing Qantas aeromedical retrieval

22 years ago today on 13 October 2002 began a significant aeromedical retrieval mission involving the RAAF, Qantas and other civilian aircraft from DPS-DRW and from there to various tertiary hospitals around the country.

The most severely injured were airlifted on C130 while QF airlifted all other passengers though some still had significant injuries as per Table 1 in the summary below. According to the article below there were 9 QF flights transporting 4500 passengers. However that is 500 passengers per aircraft...

Most would say this was a defining moment for the airline. The CEO at the time Geoff Dixon received an award on behalf of the airline. Not sure if other awards were given.
