2 hour grace period to change bookings

I don't think this is a gazetted benefit, but last night I was making a booking through bleary, tired eyes and selected Tuesday 26 rather than the required Tuesday 19. As soon as the confirmation came through, I noticed the mistake and immediately called VA (despite me just wanting to go to bed). The lady reminded me there is "normally a change fee" but then stated that would be waived as I had called within the allowable 2 hour grace window.

This is the third time I can remember this happening to me (in hundreds of bookings) and each time VA have allowed the fee waived change because I was prompt with the call, so I guess the advice here is always carefully check your bookings immediately and don't wait.

It's also congratulations to VA for their sensible policy which helps us who do make large numbers of bookings and very occasionally stuff them up!

As a point of interest, the VA lady answered promptly but did not answer as welcome to the Gold desk or such and did speak with a slight accent, but was very understandable and knowledable so I'm not quite sure whether I was speaking to an OS call centre or the BNE call centre (the call was slightly before 10pm Sat night). Either way there were absolutely no adverse issues with the call and everything handled efficiently and professionally, so hopefully this is a sign that the call centre problems associated with the Sabre implementation may be history now.
 
I am too made some mistakes on bookings such as using the wrong surname (for a mate on my booking), in all cases I had it fixed the day after at no charge.
 
I have a mistake a few times on bookings so these days double check and triple check the details on each screen before pressing confirm.

From memory though (and there is a thread around on AFF somewhere) Qantas allows changes to bookings within a 24 hour period or is it the same day.

Either way mistakes do happen and it is good to be able to rectify them without costing an arm and a leg.
 
I have asked QF to change a booking soon after making it, and they obliged. I was not aware it was policy.

On QF at least, the written policy is you have until midnight on the day you book. It is not status based and available to all. That means you're better off making your bookings early in the morning to allow you until midnight that day to fix any errors/routings.

I have made similar errors. Two I picked up within hours, wrong routing, they were changed for no charge other than any fare difference. One I did not pick up for some days, I was still not charged anything other than the fare difference. I was told I was not charged this time as a gesture of goodwill and my status.
 
Yep,

I have had a few shockers with doing bookings.

I have even booked the wrong town but they fixed it up.
 
All e-tickets can be voided on the same calendar day - so I suspect this is what QF is relying on to offer it's same day change policy.

Is this for anything? Or Just QF? Is it a cooling off law or what?
 
I presume with QF you actually have to call them? I made a booking yesterday and then realised I was a week out, so changed it within 20 mins ...and got hit with a $90 fee :(

Not 100% sure. I had my TA void and reissue an e-ticket on the same day when a new booking class became available. I assume it's maybe an industry rule to allow changes where errors are made same day...
