Whilst sweating on an upgrade on QF11 Syd Lax from PE to J I've been regularly monitoring the flight loadings through Flightstats.

Flight leaves tomorrow and the J loadings went from 20 available over the last few weeks to 3 available @ T80.

After falling off my chair I went and checked ExpertFlyer hoping that Flightstats was bust.... its not.

How could there be 17 PAX suddenly decide to fly to LAX in J less than a week out??

Anyway hoping by some miracle the upgrade still comes through.

If your flying J the price is the same if you book a month out or the day before.

Could be a sporting group or business group

Its the upgrades clearing and taking up seats, you might have a few CL and P1s ahead of you that clear in 7 days.

Sorry, but the highest seat availability you can see for QF flight numbers using flightstats is nine.

The best you can say is that at least 6 seats were "sold".

Sorry Serfty I meant across the 4 business seat categories.

I can only hope that they bump one to First freeing an additional J. Put in the request months ago and hoping Plat status gets me over the line.

That does not mean each seat has only one bucket it can be sold in, a discount J sale will also mean a J seat count reduction, you could have one seat left and if yield feel its unlikely to be sold, a 1 would show in all 4 buckets.

Dont give up... My points upgrade from discount economy (o class) to business class came through at T-23 for my flight Mel-Lax. I had been watching expert flyer and it hadn't been looking good but it all came through in the end.

So, what did you see?

e.g. If you saw J6 C5 D5 I4 that means Qantas were willing to only sell up to six seats in total. J5 C5 D5 I5 that means up to five seats in total.

i.e. J6 C5 D5 I4 does not mean that there are 20 seats available, it only means they are willing to sell up to 6 Business class seats. Six at the Full (J) rate, five at the Discounted (C) & (D) rates and four at the deep discount rate (I).

If (as per the former example) it now shows J3 C0 D0 I0 that basically means Qantas are now willing to sell 3 seats less than the 6 previously. If it is showing J1 C1 D1 I0 that indicates Qantas are only willing to sell up to one seat.

Adding to the above, the highest number it can display is 9, in which case, it means at least 9 seats are available for sale. Also note that the numbers only refer to the number of seats they are willing to sell - not the actual number of physical seats available on the plane. e.g. an airline may choose to allow overbooking, or restrict the number of pax on a flight.

Epic fail. I counted every ticket class. Probably would have saved some of the current heartbreak if I knew that earlier.

We are here to help !

And help you have. Very very surprised to see the confirmation. Seats are not together and cannot view two free next to each other but I guess we can sort that at check in.

It was probably you upgrade going through the works that was part of the changes ;)

Well done - perhaps your's was one of the 3 or 6 or so seats that went.

I suggest as a WP you check in as early as possible to maximise lounge time.
