I've read plenty on preference between upper and lower deck. I'm travelling by myself and am quite tall.

Advantages of 16A seem to be:
Window seat but easy to get out
Side bins
2 toilets upstairs
Marginally better staff to pax ratio

Advantages of 23D seem to be:
One of the first off the plane
Good chance of the middle seat being free
Minimal traffic from ahead
Floor doesn't shake like U/D
Larger overhead lockers

Have I missed anything? Which would YOU choose?

This is a very personal thing. I like the UD but some others like the LD.
If you are on the UD they block others getting off to allow you through with some priority so therefore you are not much further back in the disembarkation queue.

I like the upper deck, feels very private and much quieter.

Deplaning should be only a few minutes different as they will block Y pax to let you off first.

In this instance I would certainly take 16A. The risk of 23E being filled is too great.

16A.

(I have just returned from the UK on QF30 seated in 16K)

I always feel as though I am away from everything when I'm on the UD. The bin storage by the window is ideal.

Tony - do you have a preference over 16A or K? I currently have 16A booked both ways (QF 23/30) but 23D and 16K are also available.

It’s the risk of 23E having someone that needs to crawl over you that’s the issue. As a kid I always flew UD, but I prefer LD now.

16A for sure. Had this seat twice SYD-HKG and loved it (both times 16B was vacant).

Stacks of overhead space and the bins on the left under the window are great.

if very tall, then row 16 is always going to provide some advantages. If travelling with a reasonably large carry-on bag, then lower deck is likely to be easier. These are just two factors. So it really depends on lots of things but the difference is not significant and both are good seats as far as I am concerned. I would be happy with either.

16A is a great seat, I personally prefer 16K as I like to travel on that side of the aircraft with bins etc on my right hand side. I would take either of those over row 23 as I much prefer UD ( unless Zone A is an option of course ;)

16A is my seat of first choice on the 744. I ring to request it the moment my booking is confirmed.

The more interesting question for me is how you are guaranteeing getting an exit row without paying for it?

I don't believe Business passengers need to pay to have an exit row pre-allocated.

A WP can call Qantas premium and ask for a request for the seat to be made to "seating".

Indeed this is what I've done and currently allocated 16K and 16A on a 2 class (soon to be 3) aircraft. I'm sure the QF website says paid exit rows for economy.

I'm currently pondering switching one flight to 4E, just to get the UD and LD experience, hence I'm following this thread with interest.

16A

I prefer the UD and that 'private jet' feeling.
I do like the UD, but am not sure I would call it a "private jet" feeling. I don't think its quite the same feeling as what that female TV personality gets on her global express ;).

Fair point.

Probably the closest that I will get to that 'private jet' feeling.

I wish QF would sponsor me and 302 friends to take a holiday overseas! I would wear their PJs off the aircraft if that would make them happy ;)
