Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

How do you find award seats to LAX? And how much are they?

I just checked random dates and it was just under 79900 + $99 (or $40 from LAX) tax 1 way.

So it would mean you need to transfer 69479 points from say Amex MR (for 15% to VA bonus) and get 1 way to LAX in J on VA. The taxes is fairly low.

Thanks for the heads up VFF, just used up all those points I just transferred and booked a heap of J redemption airfares.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

Is it just me or is MEL-OOL via SYD actually MORE expensive with this sale...? Was 21800 now 24400 :/

So on some routes at least they've apparently jacked up the price just before the sale....
Probably due to availability. It would be illegal to increase the price in order to compensate for a sale

Not due to availability. Reward seats are either available or they aren't - there shouldn't be any variable pricing.

A lot of prices did rise shortly before this announcement...many on them promptly decreased again (before the 15% discount was applied). Just quirks and fine tuning of the reservation system that we're still seeing.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

Thanks VA for this fabulous gesture - 188,000pts and $859.28 quickly became 159,800pts and $115.48 with a simple cancellation and re-book 2 hours later - same flights / same dates. Velocity pts back in my account within 30mins - refund of $859.28 took 6 days.

I assume that was MEL-LAX return in J? What was the cost cost to cancel?

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

FYI, there is apparently an issue trying to get the discount applied to itineraries with VA and non-VA segments through the call centre. I'm trying to book FRA-AUH-SYD-BNE so that the AUH-SYD-BNE sectors are discounted, and the call centre tells me they can't do it with the discount applied yet.

Apparently they're trying to get it fixed, but have no ETA... Disappointing!

Was there already availability to ro-book on your days, or was it the cancelled that went back into the availability pool so you could rebook them.

I want to do this, but there are no more reward tickets on my flight, thus I want to be sure if they were cancelled, I can then rebook them.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

bullerdude was your post actually aimed at myself rather than AdMEL?

If YES – then YES flts I was booked on both showed award availability – so cancelled out and re-booked at lower rates.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale

Aren't upgrades considered rewards. Just upgraded some flights and got charged the full flight value.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale

Has the 15% off already been applied to the system or does it get applied to your booking after?

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

Just booked a trip to Adelaide (via Melbourne of course - why fly direct when you can connect) using this offer. Thanks VFF. Fantastic way to earn some SCs as well using the SC promo.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

Any word on whether this will be extended? It's now 1 July 2013 and the 15% Rewards Seats banners are still all over Velocityrewards.com.au
When doing a booking though, the points are back to the pre-15% off amounts.

Re: Pre-release exclusive for AFF – Virgin Australia Reward Seats on sale (19/4 to 30

Maybe they haven't worked out what ads are going to take over from the old ones, so thought something is better than nothing. Given the QFF MASA mess, I wouldn't be surprised that they come up with something - their Marketing Dept always seems to be on the ball.
