Hi all

Currently need 130 Status Credits to retain my QFF Gold status before 28 Feb does anyone have any ideas what best flight would allow me to do this - would prefer Australia travel and just an overnighter

I tried Melb- Christchurch return but gets me only to 120 Status an i need 130

thanks for your your help

Anthony

Depending on budget I would look at the current J sale to NZ at MEL-AKL (whichever) would get 160SC's.
Another domestic option would be say one way in J MEL-SYD-OOL $671 (80SC) with a flex-Y return for another 40.

If you don't mind two flts in discount economy, with the bonus of no over-night stops:
(i) MEL-ADL-PER-ADL-MEL should get you 60 points,
(ii) MEL-BNE-DRW-BNE-MEL should get you 70 points.

Sometimes its worth spending that bit extra and buy a flexi saver, you get double the SC than discount economy. On all of my recent flights paying about an extra $80 has doubled my SC earn from 40 to 80 SC per trip. Another plus was the amount of points needed to upgrade to Business is lower.

If you don't mind two flts in discount economy, with the bonus of no over-night stops:
(i) MEL-ADL-PER-ADL-MEL should get you 60 points,
(ii) MEL-BNE-DRW-BNE-MEL should get you 70 points.

While neither of the above necessitate an over-night stay, both look like they are very long days (early start and late finish).

MEL SYD J = 40 SC.
SYD AKL J = 80, or F = 120 SC. EK metal QF flight #. Carries on from above.
AKL MEL discY = 20 SC (I think).
28 Feb is not all far off.
Edited: Not cheap, but ensures you snap up the required SC in one go.
NOT to mention that you cant book too many sectors in one day.
MEL to ADL to PER, but you might not be able to do on the same day back, PER to MEL or PER to ADL to MEL in that one day.
I have tried.
You can play around with the booking engine, but I found out that the booking engine wont allow more than two sectors per day.
Up to 2 segments can be requested for the same day it says.

note, the online pricing engine for something like MEL-AKL will price the direct flights fine, but you try and force a connection your price will go way up as it will basically add the one way MEL-SYD cost, a t/a or other website may be able to force the same pricing with the connection, but it depends on fare rules.
However, if you have enough $$ and want a decent(apart from YUP type fares in the USA) SC return, asking for MEL or BNE-CHC (I am not sure if this works from ADL, possibly) retiurn in *F* gives you the same pricing (around the $1250 mark IIRC) incuidng the connection to SYD (in full J I might add) for nix, as EK only flies SYD-CHC and has a QF code on it offering the F fare/cabin. a round trip can net 330SC for around 2550. though booking one ways is prob cheaper as the ex-NZ POS flights are cheaper in NZD (and thus AUD).

With the current J class sale on (ends next week) one can also do MEL-AKL in J for ~700 (80SC) and AKL-MEL for similar, or less making 160 SC all up for 1500 or less. (I did score a $600 AKL-MEL J class flight which I felt was exceptional value)

just some random thoughts on trans-tas SC's

Thanks to the posters above. SWMBO needs 160SC to retain gold and the LA J run to AKL fits the bill just nicely - saved me a lot of legwork!

Slightly off topic - I think that it is probably time for a new (or updated) sticky - the current one is a bit long in the tooth following the simplification of the ASAs. I hope that the mods don't perceive this as impertinent but perhaps we could start to work one up (perhaps broken down by AU capital city and then international) to give everyone a good place to start when this question comes up. I'm happy to put the first cut together for both SYD and DRW (but beyond that is outside my zone of (somewhat) expertise).

I've also booked a status run for MEL-AKL this month, MEL-AKL in J was $671 and AKL-MEL in F was $897 (on the a380 with emirates), which I thought was excellent value, worked out cheaper to book it as two one way fares. The F fares were cheaper originating from AKL than MEL $900 vs $1200.

Yes, that ex-NZ F fare is brilliant. In general fares ex NZ, in NZD are better value, specially when there's a sale on.....

that's a sweet 200 SC's right there. Well done(and enjoy the Dom!)

ADL to SYD to CHC somedays will give the SYD to CHC availabilty in F, ADL to SYD in J of course, but the QF website can be quite moody too, and sometimes says that F is not offered on the flights, or it might also say your class of flight is full.
I have to (when the time comes) do an ADL to SYD in disc or full Y, then SYD to CHC in F on different bookings to pull it off.
Sorry OP, thread jack, (a big yawn by the others), if I want to try the F lounge in SYD or MEL, I have to do 2 separate bookings.
You or anyone not living in SYD/MEL/BNE can try, sometimes the F combo is not available. Do a dummy booking ADL to SYD to CHC/AKL in F and see what comes up.
All J is allowed/allowable by the QF computerised booking system.
I suppose any QF member above PS can call up the dedicated QF CSC phone number on the back of their QFF SG/WP/W1 card to make a booking and ask for no fees.
Best of luck though OP, hope you get your 130 in the end. I certainly know how good being an SG is! Getting an upgrade without me asking, wow!
VA never does that for me, granted VA J on those flights I took after attaining VA PS might have been full.

Aggi, make 1000% sure that all the flights esp the EK metal ones, on your e ticket have QF flight numbers.

AP it could well be that the direct connections ex-ADL do not make it to SYD in time to get to/from CHC, thus the engine will not show it? and there is always the case where the F cabin is, indeed, full :) just a thought for the threadjack

I have tried the last flight from ADL to SYD on the Fri to meet the first F flight from SYD to CHC on a Sat on Multicity, clicked First, and it pushed back my criteria to J!
Also no points plus pay on Multicity by the looks of it.
Never mind, when the time comes, I will do it as two separate bookings, ADL to SYD can (for me) be in discY, I don't mind, as I have tried QF's F, or I could call up and buy a "comfort seat" by buying 2 seats for myself ADL to SYD back to ADL, cheaper than QF J, seeing to that I have got QP as SG "free" for a while.
Ok, will keep my dog mouth quiet, as its the OP's post.
Having to pay quarterly tax as an ABN holder, and getting the overpaid tax back is a little surprise each end of tax year, will see how much I get back, that would then dictate when my F visit to the QF SYDi or QF MELi F lounge will be.

Blame simpler and fairer for that.
Sorry to drag up an old topic/thread: gripe mode on, I just do wonder if AlanJ sanctioned the Jul 14 changes.
Knew is one thing, but sanctioned is another.
Gripe mode off.
