Hi There,

I will be flying from Mumbai to Melbourne next week with QF (jet from BOM - SIN). I have a 12 hr layover from 7:30 am til 20:00 Can anyone tell me if I will get a hotel room in SIN during the layover......Its been booked as a QF ticket.

Kind Regards,

Super

No hotel room for free from QF, as mentioned on other threads it's provided by a few airlines when there is an overnight at their home base.

There is some hotels in the airport area in SIN.

If it was me I would go and do some sightseeing for the day.

You can get the bus into the city for very cheap from the airport.

If you need to get some rest, I would recommend the Ambassador Transit Hotel which is inside the airport (so no need to clear immigration, etc). Nice, clean rooms, good bathroom facilities and the ability to book a wae-up call to ensure you dont miss the next flight.

Thanks I kinda thought that there would be no hotel!! I hope I have the energy to go into town.............my next week is pretty much in the air all in Y class....Im Flying CMN - CDG (on AF) - DOH - BOM (on QR) - SIN - SYD - MEL (on Jet and QF).

Anyhow greetings from a rainy Casablanca!!

i would recommend a few hours at the transit hotel, but you can also take a FREE transit tour of singapore. Sign-up at any of the terminals (before you go downstairs to clear immigration). I think they take about 4-5 hours airport-to-airport. Information on the tours and sign-up points are no the changi airport website.

Good Choice - and remember you can book the Ambassador by the hour, so maybe a few hours when you arrive then a Taxi into Orchard Ave (Taxis are the only things that are cheap in SIN) and a wander through the ever increasing basements of the shops.(Great as wandering in SIN outdoors is ofen very hot and humid They are linked together and there are literally hundreds of underground shops and a huge variety of "Hawker Food" in several food courts. Then back to the airport for freshen up in the Ambassador paid lounge or an other hour or two in the Hotel. Perhaps also a visit to the famous "Raffles" Hotel for the most expensive "Singapore Sling" you will probably ever have !
SIN has 4 Terminals and the Ambassador has facilities in Terminals 2 and 3 - All connected by a very efficient train. Customs and immigration are very quick and painless.
Enjoy !

And if you're short on $$ then there are dedicated rest areas with lounge chairs. I've spent many a night on those :) There's also 4hrs free internet, just get a password from the info desks.

If there's every an airport to be stuck in for many hours, it's Changi.

I agree. There is a movie theatre, butterfly park, cactus garden and games area that should help pass some time too.

Alternatively, jump on the MRT and head straight into town. One changeover at City Hall will get you on the Orchard Rd line or change at Outram Park and visit Chinatown or Little India. Plenty to do and plenty of good food at either of those places.

If you have lounge access then just hang around in the lounges unless you have the energy to go into town and look around. Plenty of time to play a game of golf if you go into town ;)

Not sure if Gold has access to Skyview lounge but there are plenty of things to do in SIN airport.

12 hours is too long to be in Changi. After 2-3 hours you've pretty well seen everything within the terminal. SIN immigration is so easy to clear both ways. A taxi would be easiest to get to/from the airport to Orchard. If you are a museum type of person then a half day at Singapore Museum is good. You could also easily fit in the Singapore Flyer - Singapore Flyer | A Moving Experience At Every Turn.

Also, the casino might be worth a visit.

The Ambassdor lounge is good for when you get back to the airport in the early evening. If you don't want to pay for the lounge, there are also free showers in the terminal for freshening up for your evening flight.

For SGD change currency at the airport upon arrival at Changi. Anything leftover cash out when you leave that evening.

Head into town.....have some dumplings, shop, maybe a walk through the gardens. It's amazing how the body can cope when experiencing new things.

isn't there a swimming pool somewhere there too? have never managed to have had time find it, but supposedly it's there

If you are getting in at 0730 don't rush to town. Nothing really opens until after 10a anyway. Some not until 11a
I'd organise a freshen up, if you needed your boarding pass, breakfast and check out the offers from the tours desk.
Most of the merchant will accept foreign notes and give SGD as change. Handy if you only need money to cover a meal or few coffees. But the rates aren't great if there more than $50 or so.
I always change at the airport. You will find better rates in town (at times) but the airport exchanges are very competitive with multiple companies presenting rates.

I think it is part of the Transit Hotel...Joe Public can have a swim and a soft drink for a nominal price (maybe 10 to 15 dollars)

The Crowne Plaza Changi (landside at terminal 3, but easy access to other terminals via the train) has a day rate for 8 hours from 11am IIRC. I've used it a couple of times coming back from India, and loved it.

It's definitely not the cheapest option (you could probably get a whole night at a nice hotel in town for the same price), but it's a damn nice hotel (good food too), and you sure can't beat the location for convenience. There's even a good spot for kaya toast for breakfast just outside, if you arrive before 11 (as I suspect you will if you're on the Jet flight I'm thinking of).

If you haven't seen the sights of Singapore before, I'd definitely say getting into town is a better use of time - but if you just want somewhere to crash out and do some work for a few hours, the CP is great.

Cheers,

Danny

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the hot tips.....I think ill take a shower and have a little kip in lounge then head into town, treat myself to a big bowl of Laska for lunch and then walk it off.

Cheers,

Super

Im here and and guess what the lounge is closed to reopen at 3pm........seriously I dont understand what QF is doing atm they seem to be encouraging their pax to fly with other airlines!! Why offer a 12 hrs layover when you know that your ff will not have a lounge to go to.....from now on ill fly SQ to India!
