The red Bordeaux wine will age for a year up there before returning to Earth. Researchers will study how weightlessness and space radiation affect the aging process. The goal is to develop new flavors and properties for the food industry. A control batch of the same wine will also be aged on earth over a year-long period. Both batches will be stored at 18 degrees.

What’s left will go to those who helped pay for the research, according to a company spokeswoman.

If they were serious they would use screwcaps to eliminate/minimise variables; however, if they intend to sell Bordeaux under cork on Mars in the future, well, I suppose taking 12 up will may provide some sort of statistical average to level out variation.

What do the real scientists here think?

I wonder if the delivery fee falls within the standard QF Wine delivery charge of Metro $7 and Country $19 ??
