Truly bizarre; I don't mean the 'top 10', but check out some of the individual indicators, such as 'weapons imports'. Who know that of 157 countries, Australia scores about 4th 'worst'? Really?

Garbage in ... garbage out ....

LOL Iceland is No 1.

Didn't this country play a major role inflicting the globe with a deadly financial crisis?

Obviously meaningless.
I must have imagined the riots in Brazil during the World Cup.
Ethnic Chinese killed in Vietnam this year.
And although Botswana is a great little African country they do shoot a few poachers.

The quote in the OP seems totally meaningless, but if you click on the map in the linked article, the rankings sort of make more sense. Brazil at #91 out of 162, seems consistent. Vietnam is #45.

The top 10 in the index (as opposed to the seeminly arbitrary list in first paragraph) generally seems fairly logical, in terms of "peaceful" countries .... Iceland, Denmark, Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Finland, Canada, Japan, Belgium, Norway.... as does the bottom 10 being (from bottom of list backwards) ... Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Central African Republic, DRC, Pakistan, North Korea....

Unfortunately working.Windows XP with IE6 does not allow one to actively interrogate the map.Only get the original link page.
I'm glad in reality it is a bit better but what really does it mean?

See rooflyer post no.4 :)

Thanks for posting, what a fascinating little map.

Interestingly the only two countries which rate as "red" on the map for "jailed population" are the USA and North Korea!
