Qantas international Economy Class meals

Evening Trans Tasman flight here - I was looking forward to the focaccia but it wasn't served, nor was a 'dessert' - only crackers and cheese which I though was a strange choice for an evening flight.

I dont think there is usually a dessert, just a lindt chocolate ball towards the end. We've definitely never had a dessert on trans tasman.

A few years ago I did a OWA in Y.
Right from the outset I had requested kosher meals on all segments - just as a laugh to see how different the meals were to the regular Y offering.

I'd definitely recommend it! Not only did they come out first, but they were absolutely delicious and plentiful.

Amusing side story...LHR to JFK a seriously religious Jewish family were seated in the row in front. Along comes the hostie with the kosher meals - clearly destined for the most obvious recipients! Nope, I needed to raise my hand "they're mine", the token Aussie bogan clearly experimenting with meal choices.
The family in front hadn't ordered any meal at all so wasn't as if I was stealing their meals ;)
It really is a shame that Qantas stopped this on domestic economy for flights under 2.5 hours (which most passengers will be flying)

Had the new tray on QF35 to SIN last weekIMG_3736.JPG
Needs some grips on the bottom as it kept sliding around.

QF44 DPS-SYD on 27 April

Tasted surprisingly good. Served just after takeoff. I wonder if it is cooked/prepared in Bali because I was seriously impressed.

They also provided a small muffin just before arrival, but I did not take a picture of it.

The only annoying thing is the lights off time to allow sleep is short, but that is the nature of overnight flights from DPS to Australia.

Oh you poor, poor people. Fly Emirates or Qatar and remember the good days, even if it means taking you out of your way .

OT but just for comparison:

This is a South African Airways economy meal on a 1.5hr flight within Africa. Flight May 2025. Oddly the return flight from its JNB hub we were served a box with sandwich, fruit and ambient snacks.

WARNING this post contains slop.

QF155 MEL-AKL June 2025
Pasta or beef. Took the beef and was provided with some slop representing mashed potato, a small piece of beef, vegetables seemingly capsicum, courgette and some white stuff all swimming in a bowl.
The beef was actually tender and well cooked, just not a lot of it.

Wine offering was Shiraz or Cab Sav

Just OK, not something you'd buy

Return leg, QF156 AKL-MEL 2 July. 3 hour delay due to weather
Chicken Salad or pork in a sauce. Stupid took the pork and paid for it

The pork piece count equalled the carrot and broccoli count. Bleh.
Meanwhile in 4F was the chicken salad and it looked much better. It appeared to have a decent size piece of breast meat surrounded by lettuce and such.
Wine was the same but on the 3rd bottle it changed to a much better brand and taste. Maybe the rank stuff was the last of line.

These meals were probably some of the worst I've had in recent memory. Dessert was 1 - count it - 1 mini kit kat.

Maybe they should stop serving mashed potatoes and serve rice. It's hard for rice to look like slop in a photo, and it soaks up some residual sauce.
