hi everyone,

Im a newbie with a question.......

I got the DSC promo and find myself in the position where I can book a JASA as follows MEL-BNE-TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV, CNS-SYD-MEL for 120k FF points and $667.51. This will earn 1040 SC. These SC's will get me over the magic 2400 mark and when the 50k bonus is combined with the last (4/4) Loyalty bonus and the points earned, the effective cost is the dollar value and 25,483 points.

I need to be in Townsville in late May and Cairns early June which is conveniently either side of my re-qualification date (31 May), so if I book things correctly, I can credit 240 SC in my new year.

Is this right?

cheers for any help/clarification,

Cheers,
Downwind.

That's all good but you are not gaining any higher status. You are burning 120k points (and cash) just to get the 50k bonus and a couple of loyalty bonuses. If you are aiming for P1 then I certainly understand but as you appear to be platinum or thereabouts then I say your points burn is a waste sorry. I can't see why you are dong it or am I missing something?

The extra SCs could be valuable towards lifetime status if the OP earns points pretty easily.

For me - lifetime SCs would be the only benefit.... That said if you're already needing to be in TSV and CNS, and the net cost is as you say - then it may be good value.

Very subjective :)

I think dfcatch makes a good point re lifetime SCs else is it worth it?

Thanks for your replies....

Red-e Deals ex MEL to TSV and returning from CNS would cost me $511 anyway, so by my calculations, the "status run" TSV-DRW-TSV (which I dont really need), plus flying all 8 sectors in J would cost an additional $156 and 26K points over what I would have to ordinarily spend. For that outlay, I get 1040 SC (vs 120SC for the Red-E-Deal fares), 240 of which will be in my new membership year, and it will boost my lifetime status credits to just over 10,000.

As for status, I'm Platinum with no desire or ability to attain Platinum 1, I have close to 1 Million points and earn them easily enough. FWIW, my membership renewal is due at the end of May and i'll re-qualify for Platinum status by mid August.

I initially thought 120k was a bit steep considering a RTW fare is 140K in Y, but when I factored in the 50K FF bonus that I wouldn't normally get, plus the last of 4 loyalty bonus's and the points earned from the JASA, its like blowing $150 and 26K FF points for 8 confirmed business class upgrades. Seems like a no brainer to me, so much so that i've just gone and booked it. Hopefully it works out as planned.

Cheers.

Good points, downwind. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing Downwind.

Its quite possible there are AFFers seeking mileage runs who may be able to use a similar flights to attain or renew a membership level.

Stack of status run routes HERE

Slightly off topic, but what is the 50k FF bonus that is mentioned above? Is there a new targetted promotion running that offers this for some members? Thanks.

If you get to 2400 SC's in you membership "year" you are eligible for a "Platinum Additional benefit" and can choose between:

- Gifting Gold Status to a friend,
- Get a bonus of 50,000 points,
- Get 4 Limousine Vouchers or
- any other benefit QFF may make available from time to time (although I haven't seen this latter in action).

It seems many choose the Bonus.

This is an excellent thread!
I love your calculations and may have to keep the idea in the back of my mind for next year ;)
