10000 Points with Red Energy

Does anybody know if a credit check with a utilities provider affects credit score? Assume so.

Was going to go for the double whack on the Westpac Black, but then saw the Red Energy check pop up. Don't think I want three hits in a month.

Can confirm that no credit check for app with red energy or any other utility apps for me a for the last few months.
 
Points received. No bill as yet. Thinking about now moving to Energy Australia and taking the 10,000 velocity points on offer and then moving back to my original provider.
 
I switched to red for points 10 days ago and just received the electricity 10k points. No sign of the gas points yet.

Joined to say I used a referral code from a member here a few months ago. After following up with Red Energy I have just received my voucher, hopefully the person who's code I used gets theirs.

Questions for current Red Energy users/ Swappers:

I''m interested to know if anyone had any problems switching OUT of Red Energy.
It gets a pretty bad rap on the reviews pages, aka bad communication, poor customer service.
So anyone have any problems with their Red Energy bills? have problems ending the supply with Red Energy (when you want to swap back to your original, or other) ?
And anyone found that their bill was HIGHER than their original bills?

Lastly, can someone clarify the gift card thing? Do I need a NAME and a number, or just a number?

I had 4 accounts for 4 different properties with them until recently when I ended 2 of them only due to no longer requiring the service in my name. One final meter reading went through perfectly fine. The other final meter reading (which was requested at the same time as the first one) didn’t go through. I rang again a few weeks later, and was assured it was all in order and sometimes it takes time. Weeks later I got a bill. I contacted them again and the final reading was done. I asked for the Daily Supply Charge to be backdated to the date I first rang, and they were happy to do so.
The gift card thing, you just need a customer number which you can get from anyone here on this forum.

It can be difficult swapping out. Their bills are not necessarily higher. You only need an account no.

I'd +1 for Red Energy. I've had a positive experience with them so far (including when I was looking to leave and switch to Powershop). Red eventually made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I've now been with them for 4 years so far and they are still competitive and haven't had any issues with normal service/billing..

In fact I'm happy enough with the deal that I don't think I would get a better one if I did try to port out again but shhh.. don't tell them that..

On calling to get a better deal with Red Energy, I was quoted roughly $40 more a quarter over Origin and Powershop for where I live (SA). As much as the points are a bonus per quarter I would much rather the money savings especially in our current global climate. May return in the future if they can offer a better deal.
