Velocity is currently giving 100% bonus points if you buy points through Velocity Points Booster. Maximum 100,000 points per transaction, and up to 250,000 points (including bonus points) per account, per year. Offer ends 13 November.

I personally won't be buying. I don't trust Bain Capital and I'm currently trying to clear out my Velocity balance, not pay money to add to it...

Qantas is also doing 20% off top-up points for the next 4 days as part of its Big Points Sale.

Velocity must be losing soooooo much money - who in their right mind would transfer or buy points in the program at the moment. I assume Bain is going to deliver more carnage. Tread very carefully. I'm trying to reduce my balance. It's sad the program and airline has gone this way ;-(

With so much money tied up in flight credits as opposed to refunds: majority of which were 'invested' in international flights; I won't be adding any more value to their bank balance until there is a clear direction on when and where I will be able to use those credits and the points already accrued. Being 'stuck' in lockdown in Melbourne just adds to the pain of it all.

I have put my first in a while 2,000 FB points to $10 Coles reward shop.
I wonder if their system will pick up on this and offer me something.
I didn't get the buy up to 100,000 points email though, so it must have been from a "selected list".

Count me out as well, I am glad I managed to transfer VA points to Krisflyer before that channel was shut down, I am certainly not keen to buy points when it is very likely you can only use points for VA redemption (ie. can't use it on partner airlines) in the future.

They must be desperate for cash, this is a bad move in the long run as it puts a heap of liability on the books while also driving customer dissatisfaction through poor value point burn options.

I’ve got ~478k of flybuys points which I feel are safer with flybuys rather than transferred to velocity. I’d rather use those through flybuys travel or to buy an iPad or iPhone than risk them dissolving into nothing. I wouldn’t risk buying points with velocity especially considering the most recent announcements. It’s a shame that the 160k points I have with velocity will he spent on jb gift cards. Thankfully the bulk of them went to KrisFlyer!

.
All just a naked cash grab attempt by BAIN who can see already they too will be broke in 6 months. They bought the wrong asset at the wrong time.

Velocity will cease to be a cash cow *SUPER* fast of course, as the only reasons folks bother to actively acquire points via Velocity cards, ebay spends, partner offers, FlyBuys etc, (all of which earns Velocity their money) is to ASPIRE for a lay flat biz flight award seat to Perth, Hong Kong, Fiji, LA, Japan or NZ etc, and none of that is ever going to occur going forward, and the public are smart enough to work that out VERY fast.

Buy points, spent real money on them and get a ''Business Class'' domestic seat on Tiger#2 with no lounges, no WiFi, and a plastic cup of water and a polystyrene cup of Maggi Instant Noodles -- now THERE is a cunning plan to waste money!

I can almost smell the desperation from here.

Flybuys travel is actually quite ok especially when there is major sale of airfares. I have used it when it was cheaper to book flybuy travel durectly using flybuy points, then to redeem on VA flight awards for the same flight. That is what I am going to do using flybuy points.

Yep, I’ve used them many times for flights and hotels. Never had any dramas and points are earned on all bookings. Quite often they do bonus points on certain airlines. I’ve booked a number of times when they do bonus points sitewide and ended up with a nice stash. I’ll likely use my points on travel when we can but I hope the pandemic doesn’t cause flybuys travel to go belly up like some other travel bases services have. I suppose they’d have to change the name ‘flybuys’ if you can’t redeem points to fly. Now if only flybuys made a partnership with another airline...

Yes Ive got a large amount of Flybuys that I'm leaving for the moment and will take cash if necessary. We cashed up most of our velocity points for booze and now have an extensive wine cellar, should last for years!
Hung onto enough velocity points for a couple of biz seats, but stuck in WA and not leaving for another state as will be hard to get back.(except for returned NZ travellers!).
Got my eye on a BBq if all else fails from the shop and my credit card is amassing a huge amount of Qantas FF's. So hello Qantas. Not flying tiger#2 or Jetstar #2. Besides being like a bus-ride, Jetstar are just so useless.
We got the Qatar platinum match confirmed but no card and only lasts til next June 21 so expect it will expire before we can use it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hard pass.

Buyer beware.

Velocity is late to the party. They needed to run this 8 months ago.
Kind of feels like Velocity has lost direction this year even before the border closures.

Thanks... i Just looked - 100,000 points for around $1300 .. darn shame the SQ transfer was NOT still on! :)
