Fortunately we are not talking QR here.
No. My expectation is that from what I have read about him, the CEO is not someone youd be totally comfortable with keeping his promise, but given part of making a merger successful is keeping most of your customers happy I'm not expecting him to dud us in the honeymoon period.

Never bought miles before. If I bought the full 50K, how quick would the bonus miles post? Same time? And the base miles purchased take how long? Sorry if this is obvious or mentioned somewhere else.

When I purchased last week all of 100,000 miles posted within minutes.

New accounts seem to have an extra step of some sort of verification that does delay the transaction, most noticeably on US weekend time as the points seem to post only during their business hours.

I've got the current buy/gift miles and get 100% bonus promotion. I've only ever bought miles for myself, never gifted (have done the share though...)

Am I able to 'gift' 50k+50k to 2 different accounts under the current promotion? has anyone had first hand experience in doing that successfully?

Ok 1,000 points bought in the hope of triggering an offer before the end of the year. :)

Have topped up for my family but done a big buy for myself (48K + 48K). While I personally dont think AA offers quite the same benefits as US it's marginal and this is a very good way to buy what will become AA points, way better than AA themselves offer.

I'm really ticked off at USDM about this. I have already bought miles on mine and my wife's account within the last few months - but they give us no love on this targeted offer!?

Life is full of difficult questions and decisions.

We already have some Dividend Miles across two accounts and I'm trying to decide whether to top them up from this current offer. We bought the first lot in a previous promotion with the sole intention of using them when they became AAdvantage miles. Now this seems certain. However, it also appears very likely that there will be some sort of devaluation of the AA scheme in the not too distant future. The AA scheme is looking increasingly isolated in not being devalued. Maybe it will be at the time DMs are migrated? Who knows?

As I wouldn't be using the migrated miles before May 2014 for a trip planned for early 2015, I am coming to the conclusion that I might just sit on my hands this time. Decisions, decisions in the next 48 hours.

AA's frequent flyer program is complicated by its relationship with Citi Bank. An agreement in 2009 gives Citi the right to take ownership of the AAdvantage program itself, in certain circumstances, as security against Citi's purchase of US$1 billion worth of AA miles.

I doubt Citi would be impressed if its investment in AA miles was significantly reduced by a post merger devaluation, and Citi may even have the ability to remove AA's control over its own frequent flyer program, if it feels particularly aggrieved.

Few hours left to purchase miles on this promotion, possibly the last before the merger with AA.

I've just bought 4x 50k (plus 50k bonus).

Maybe a new thread is called for but I just wondered about the taxes that have been slapped on. If these miles are used for business travel purposes, can taxes be accounted for by the business?
