100,000 velocity points for velocity platinum amex with referral

Just wanted to add a few things. Firstly, over the last year or so, the complimentary flight from Perth to Sydney was always an unofficial destination. It used to be an approved destination, then it was taken off for a while, but it seems it is official once again. My original graphic (1st post) is clearly inaccurate. Eeeek!
Anyway, this is what it looks like now for Perth residents. It's great to know that Adelaide is on the list also, just for some variety.

I also wanted to expand a little on some great Singapore airlines routes. Remembering that velocity points convert 1.35:1 to Krisflyer points.

1) Perth to Hong Kong business. The fare for this trip is 27,625 krisflyer points one way + $266 taxes. So return comes in 55,250 krisflyer points (74,587 velocity points) plus $486 taxes. The taxes are quite heavy, but still not bad for a fare that usually retails for around $4000

2) Sydney to Hong Kong Suites. The fare for this trip is 63,750 Krisflyer points one way + $297 taxes. That equates to 86062 velocity points Plus around $300. So if the card costs $350, plus the $300 taxes, you're out of pocket $650 for a flight that would normally cost nearly $4500! That's pretty insane.

3) Being from Perth, I think this is my favourite Singapore airlines redemption. So much so I recently booked it for the better half using the Velocity points we earned on our sign-up last year.
Singapore to Hong Kong. Being from Perth, there's no first direct from here, so I got my partner & her sis a cheap flight to singapore & then as a treat they get to experience First & Suites to and from HK. Both Journeys are 31,875 krisflyer points plus $34 in taxes. So total 63,750 Krisflyer points (86062 velocity points) + $68 taxes. So in total it cost us around $420 for ($349 card + $68 taxes) flights valued at around $4500.
Oh, and as an added bonus, they get to spend time at the (apparently) amazing 'private room' before departing Singapore & also when returning from Hong Kong should they wish. (same applies to SYD-HKG TRIP)

So just a few more examples why the Platinum Velocity is great value card (provided you don't rack up a balance on it).

Have had a couple of friends apply for this card recently and Amex have requested copies of pay slips. I know from a while back when I applied Amex rarely seemed to to actively verify income details. I would be curious to hear other experiences from recent applicants.

For those that my be interested in Hawaii holidays. I used our points on a family holiday to Hawaii for our family of 4.

Hawaiin airlines are a great avenue to Hawaii using velocity points. Hawaiin airlines release their J awards first and seem to release them 2 at a time. From my experience I have been able to ring up at approx 330 days out and pick up two J seats. Then ring back approx a week later and pick up another 2 on the same flight!!!! At some point they then release Economy seats. I have also had no issue picking up 4 economy seats approx one month out from school holidays with a multiple of dates to choose from!!

An economy award from Brisbane to Honolulu is 37,500. A business award is 65,000.

AND the great news is that Hawaiian Airlines are in the process of updating all their business seats on the Australian Hawaii route to lie flat seats! These are apparently going to be available for sale from September this year.

Our family of 4 point cost in business is 260,000 points each way. If you and your partner were to apply for this card. (100,000 points each)One referring the other this month. (pick up another 60,000) You would have enough for a family of 4 in economy or a business return trip for 2!

Velocity has 2 key advantages that are worth pointing out:
1. Superior redemption - as evidenced by the "Best Redemption Ability" award at the 2016 Freddie Award
2. Flexibility - it is able to be converted to Singapore's KrisFlyer to optimise availability and costs (taxes, etc)

At 100,000 points - in my opinion, the best bang for buck is Sydney or Brisbane to LA. This costs 94,000 points, which equates to 8.4c per dollar - the highest redemption value I can find and far superior to gift cards which typically convert to 0.5c per dollar. However, everyone has their own preferences. Good luck!
