Mrs C is short by 10 status credits of achieving Gold.

Anniversary date is 31st July but no travel planned until August.

Will she need to make a SC run or will QFF show some generosity, by granting her Gold.

Thanks

Anecdotally, "comping" to SG is rare unless it's a re-qualification. And even then it's not guaranteed.

I'd be looking for a cheap SC run to make sure she qualifies.

For what it's worth, I was 40 short of requalifying (but I had a 35SC flight which hadn't credited, and 15SC owing for a DSC offer) and received my requal pack several weeks before the end of my year.

If she's still silver, I don't believe they generally get comped. Get the SCs and be sure!

If 10 SCs short of "retaining" gold, then there is a good chance it will be comped. But if 10 SCs short of "achieving" gold then the chances are very low and if gold is the goal then book a flight somewhere.

Is SG worth up to the up to $200 cost of garnering 10 SC's? (ball park)

Basically, only you two can answer that for your situation.

In general personally I would say it would only be worth it if flying in the next 24 months may be significant.

I was in the same position last year. Gave Qantas a call and they said they will only consider it closer to the end of the assessment year (say one or 2 weeks) I was still going to queenstown to get me over the line but was impatient for my SG

My initial thoughts were, yes, definitely chase SG. However, I see you are WP and my opinion is thus that it depends on whether or not she does a lot of travel where you couldn't guest her into the lounge.

If she does intend to travel a lot without you, it could well be worth making a SC run.

Firstly wait until ~8 weeks before re-assessment date. Generally if you are going to get comped this will be the first indication.

If not comped at that point then decide on whether to go for Gold or not.
