10 QFF Points per $ - Gift Vouchers are back!

Bought a voucher this morning, and used it without any problems and without having to call QF.

Purchased 2 x $300 voucher was $600 for Mrs Lime & self, booked flights $676 15 mins. later, paid difference ($76), was all just so easy online, will be 6000 QFF points + approx 1000 from Amex (Bank) card, so very happy chappy.

"Selected Qantas products and services are Qantas passenger flights with a QF flight number purchased on the Qantas merchant account i.e. with Qantas direct or some travel agents and Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, and Qantas branded non-airfare products. Subject to the Qantas American Express Card Points Terms and Conditions. ..."

Given that vouchers are being used for flights I believe they are eligible for extra points on Amex cards. Certainly extra points were given last year, and I don't believe it was luck. Anyway the 10 points per dollar is the major attraction, but all points help.

That excludes non-airfare products. These vouchers are airfare based products. You are buying an airfare and only an airfare. The other conditions are satisfied.

Not really - that generally to avoid stuff like "Qantas Holidays" or otherwise.

Usually it's 6 weeks after purchase in the Terms. Make sure you keep a list, there can be problems with points not posting. ISTR from last year, vouchers that were used within the purchase period, i.e. during december, did not automatically get the bonus points. (my recollection could be wrong on this)

I would like to understand what happens with any residual voucher value since these are only 75 or 10% when international bookings.

I would not think the voucher booking system is that sophisticated. You may need to book separately and link the bookings.

If the child is listed on the voucher, as in "counted in the number of pax", then the residual value will be issued to a new voucher. The residual will be the original value minus the cost of the airfare, whether that 100% or 75%. The new voucher will be for the same passengers.

I was confused by the fact that the child would have a higher residual dollar amount left potentially than the adult passengers and was wondering how this was handled if money was not used in full. I had it in my head that when new voucher is issued do the child pax have the higher residual to use next time or is the remainder split evenly for the new voucher across the total number of pax.

In your (? theoretical) case, the residual would be for a multiple-pax booking which may or may not include the child again.

The only requirement is that the number of pax traveling for the subsequent booking(s) is unchanged from the number originally listed on the voucher.

And the residual is spread evenly between all on the voucher.

In this hypothetical situation, say it's a voucher for 1 adult and 1 child for $300 value. First booking is $100 and $75. It just says $300-$175=$125 -> new voucher issue for 2 passenger for $125. If the child is change to an adult (name changes are allowed) and the same $100 fares are booked for the 2 adults. $200 of fares minus $125 means you'll have to pay in $75 cash. Basically all that matters is the total value of the voucher versus the value of the fares booked.

Thanks. Just making sure. In my case I was just trying to determine what would be the best way to buy a voucher for a family of 2 adults 1 child and 1 infant for an overseas holiday.

I was also trying to understand for another scenario what way would work when only 1 adult flies with the infant domestically. The infant does not have a seat and is free but I presume I would need a 2 pax voucher still.

One issue I do see that might happen is when the residual amount is created to a voucher it might not be a single voucher but an individual voucher for each passenger.
Happend to me last year, but from memory it happened to others and they were able to ring and get it combined again.
When I tried it was in the too hard basket for the agent, so I had to book each of us separately for the one trip then get the bookings linked.
