Re: VA points for kWhs

I just recently swapped to Dodo as they were much cheaper. Limo weren't interested in keeping me until I had done the swap. Then they queried why I was swapping and offered to try and price match :!:

Did the offer the price match on the velocity plan?
I was interested in changing to them on the velocity plan, but they wouldnt budge on the rates.

They dont' price match on the Velocity plans

That being said where I am, the rates were very much the same, a few companies were a tiny bit cheaper say about 2% but for 6points per $1 Lumo works well for me even though I dont' need any more Velocity points

Re: VA points for kWhs

I'd suggest you redo those figures somewhat as there is a reasonably significant omission.

Hint - what is the total monthly spend that $34 based on? To put it another way: how much per month for Momentum (x) and how much per month for Lumo (x + $34)?
over 10%. It was around $205 for Lumo and $171 for Momentum.

I'd call that a no brainer (as to not go for Lumo). If it was $34 based on a $1000 bill, then yes. Different story.

Ok, with all other things being equal, for the cost of that $816, the total Velocity Points garnered would be nearly 25,000.

That's 3.3¢ per point, not "over 8¢".

OK fair call about that as I did not factor in the actual points earn rate for use and supply charges :).

Still, at 3.3c/point I still consider that over market odds personally.

I was paying my rent at my old place via credit card. Even with the 'convenience fee' added via the provider I was making around 36,000 FF points a year for under $450. So the difference in cost from Lumo and Momentum works out to be around $408 a year. With the money I save on using Momentum, I'd only have been $42 out of pocket for the 36000 QFF points (I know it's QF and not VA but I value each about the same c/point wise). Unfortunately my new agent does not allow me to pay via the third party card providers so I will now be out of luck there.

Re: VA points for kWhs

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has anybody had further experiences with this company?

I'm thinking of making the switch

Nate

Re: VA points for kWhs

13 months down and I've earned about 34000 velocity points from this. They were credited without fuss after bill payment.

Strangely for each bill they generally post in two lots - a flat rate amount representing $42 coming a week or so after an initial credit representing the bill total less that $42.

Caused a bit of consternation at first but now I am used to it.

I've been with Lumo for about 2 years. Have not had any problems.

As has been mentioned before Lumo don't price match on velocity plans. Other Lumo plans have up to 20% discount for paying on time (may only be 10% in QLD).

Same here. I think they're great and I've not had any issues with them at all.

Re: VA points for kWhs

Thank a gentlemen, I think it may be time to make the switch.

That 10,000 points will go quite nicely on a transcontinental J upgrade!

Re: VA points for kWhs

I made the switch to them a few weeks ago. 10000 points posted the day after the 10 day cooling off period. Waiting on the first round of bills to come in the next month or so. So far so good tho

Re: VA points for kWhs

I haven't posted on here in ages, but just thought I'd mention I signed up for this deal shortly after it launched (about two years ago). All points have posted in a timely fashion and my bills have all been reasonable. Hence, I had no reason to cancel at the end of the two year contract and it automatically renewed for another two years. Unbeknownst to me, I was entitled to another 10,000 points that were credited to my account, which I'm certainly not complaining about. I would have assumed it was just a lure for you to sign up initially.

Re: VA points for kWhs

I thought this one had been put to bed long ago!
The Velocity tariff is much higher than the regular tariff.
In effect, once you have spent enough on electricity to earn the points for a J rtn to Europe you will have spent $4383 more than someone on the normal tariff. The "cost" of your fare is therefore $4383 before taxes
Now I know that is still cheaper than the published fare but there are many threads on this forum which will show you how to beat that price.

Anyone care to differ? :)

Re: VA points for kWhs

I tolerated Lumo for several years but after too many incorrect bills and then being threatened by a debt collector for a bill I did not receive and that I had been chasing up, I simply gave up and swapped to Dodo at a much cheaper rate.

I cannot and would not recommend them to my worst enemy :!:

Not in NSW where it's regulated. Yes, you miss out on a discount elsewhere but that discount is on usage fee only, but most of a small bill is the access fee. Hence, picking up points on the total bill makes sense.

With Lumo but not on Velocity tariff. 20% discount of the whole bill, not just usage. Verified 3 past bills including one with almost nil usage (was overseas) all discounted by 20% off the standard tariff.

Re: VA points for kWhs

I spend over $13k a month on Electricity bills across a few of my manufacturing plants, I wonder if this offer would extend to business AND how much more it would cost? I have no idea what I am currently paying, but if it were not a huge amount extra, that would be a million points in the ol' Velocity account each year.

Anyone have experience with this offer and a business account?

Re: VA points for kWhs

No experience of Lumo with a business account, but at $13K a month I'd have thought you'd be able to negotiate a tariff that would be much cheaper than the retail tariff that this offer applies to.

Its over 4 plants, and I believe the biggest does have a cheap rate but I am sure the 3 smaller ones aren't on any type of deal. Will get someone in the office to investigate this a bit further.
