$0 Annual Fee for Life on Citi Platinum/Signature CC Complimentary Insurance

Not quite sure why you are keeping it, fairly clear they don't really want you as customers and are determined to devalue the card to a point you give up. Aside from plain old stubbornness it appears a losing game to me!

Yes, very true.

In my case, having recently taken a redundancy, the ability to qualify for an alternative is not so certain; so I am carefully getting rid of some of my old cards and replacing them where I can. As far as the CBG is concerned, I still get 1.25 points per $ on eligible spend so as long as I am careful where I use it, it still works for me to a point. And I can offset the fee with a free bottle of wine at an occasional restaurant.

On the other hand, my ANZ FF Platinum at $360 p.a., for only 0.5 points per $ on Visa is about to bite the dust (unless they give me a second year fee free). OK, so the Amex card with it gives 1.5 points per $, but hardly anyone accepts it (especially in regional NSW).

So I don’t have time to go through 83 odd pages but has anyone identified a purchase/bill payment that doesn’t result in points with this card?

I’m embarking on a card consolidation (lol) and it’s looking more and more like this will become my primary/daily visa/non amex card.

Have pumped 15 odd k though it over the past couple of months and haven’t been able to easily identify any non generating purchases/payments…

Just want to make sure its a keeper before I start canceling cards. Thanks.

Please refer to post #819, I have got rid of my CBG so can't help much.

Patience is a virtue (becoming a huge virtue....)

It is now one hour 20 minutes since I started the application process.

BUT I have an existing Citi Platinum (20 yrs+ and it charges an annual fee) and Citi Bank A/c (20 Years+) - not interested in any of that info (or to even copy across the details to save reinventing the wheel....).

Aim: Upgrade to fee-free for life Citi Signature CC for me & supplementary card holder, transfer across existing credit limit & direct debits set up on existing Platinum rewards cc, then close/cancel/kill existing Platinum CC for me and supplementary card holder.

I don't want any more Citibank Credit limit yet they are insisting on the application being a new amount added of $15k (min), and as it an additional Citibank exposure - and as such they want me to provide (down the track) copies of various documents.

A.K.A. Reinventing the Wheel

Moving onto the 'Applications unit' yields :

"Sir, we don't have access to your existing account information."
So,
"I grant you permission to access my existing account information in order to save you, me, and Citibank from wasting time and costs in unnecessary activity."
"Sir, we don't have access so we will need you to supply several documents."
"But earlier you and others have told me that as part of the application process you will reference and validate my existing accounts as they are under the same name and address details, so you must have access to those details to be able to accomplish that task. Secondly as I do not wish to increase Citibank's level of credit exposure to me, am debt-free, have a 20 year track record of substantial monthly spending and paying off etc then the application should not be treated as an alien account by Citibank."
"Can I put you on hold sir?
Now 1 hour 45minutes. The hold music (piano with orchestral background) being replayed for the >30th time.

Fast forward through 3 different people (colours...)until I get to Senior Applications officer, (@ 4,29pm today), run through tale of woe,
"Let me apologise sir, what you have described is that you want an upgrade from an existing account to the fee-free-for-life Signature Card, is that correct?"
"YES"
'OK sir, what they have done is created a new account application which I will cancel now and I will speak to customer service and explain what you want.'
More glorious replays for 4 minutes,
"OK sir, I have xx_ on the line and he will help you upgrade your existing account to the fee-free-for-life Signature card, is that OK?'
'Yes, thank you."
'Goodbye then sir, xx_ can you please assist our customer' Now 4.38pm.
"Hello sir, can i just confirm your full name and date of birth?"
{ INCREDIBLY LOUD INTERNALISED AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH }
Then I duly complied for the 4th time....
"Thank you sir, you want to ..... I'll send off a request to upgrade your existing Platinum Rewards to a Signature Rewards card maintaining existing credit limit and supplementary card holder. You should receive a letter in 2-3 business days to confirm this has been done and within x days new cards will arrive. Please call the 132484 number once you receive each card to activate and then hold on to speak to a customer service representative to either get them to request the fee-free-for-life offer to be activated for the account or you can ask the customer service representative to transfer you to my extension number 82ZZZ and I will follow through for you.. You should receive confirmation within 2 to 3 business days of that status. Is this satisfactory for you?"
"Yes thank you very much."

Total time with last person 5 minutes. Of which maybe 90 seconds was confirming the details of the what I really, really wanted.

Total elapsed call time 2 hours 6 minutes.
Total wasted call time 1 hour 57 minutes.

Wasted cost to Citibank 2 hours and 2 minutes

Outcome: Pending.....

Interesting, i wonder if Citi Signature also class bill payments the same (no points).

... Would certainly be a deal breaker for me.

Have existing Plat Rewards and get points for all DD bill payments from the card. Even get Coles/Woolies Points for some of the payments. And double dip with Myer One for petrol.

Emailed a known Citi staff about this promotion. Received a reply cc'ing his colleague & letting me know that his colleague would be assisting me with the application. No reply from said colleague until 2 days later, saying, please fill in the application form + send supporting documents bla bla.

No form attached  Asked him to resend the form... No reply so far.

The problem here is that you can obviousluy get things done quickly if you get to the right person, bit Citibank makes it really hard to get to that right person.

Has anyone received the $0 fee signature as well as the 60k points ? or is it 1 or the other.... wishful thinking..!!!

No one is filling me with confidence about Citi's application process. I applied 14 days ago and haven't gotten formal word yet. My application status has gone from in progress to conditionally approved to in progress and back to conditionally approved.

I was also emailed 3 times telling me to send pay slips etc...followed by being phoned 3 times re the same and having to phone them twice myself.

Now that my income is verified, I'm hoping that a return to 'Conditionally Approved' is a good sign and I will get some good news soon ... I hope...? :)

I wish I saw peoples advice about putting in for a specific $15k credit limit though!

Sounds like Citi is really improving their processing.
Just keep your sense of humour and you will be ok.

Applied online and uploaded docs at the end of the application, all approved within 24 hrs. Existing Citibank customer but no current credit card. Asked for and received 15k limit, would happily have had less but that seems to be the floor for some premium cards.

And now my application is back to 'in progress'. It's now been 16 days since I applied and I still don't have an answer ... even though my income was verified over a week ago - very surprised they are so slow!

Called again and was advised I will have an answer by the end of the week. Wish me luck :)

I applied on the 11th of April and finally have approval as of 17th June. I own my own business and even though I receive a salary they see me as self-employed and once you're in this bucket they make it extremely difficult. I supplied everything they requested (multiple tax returns, etc) and let me accountant know that Citi would contact him for verification; they just never called him.

I called at least 15 times to check on my application status and kept receiving the same story, that it would be escalated and they'd contact my accountant. Finally, I called for the last time I waited on hold until the made contact with my accountant and a week later it was approved.

I wonder if all this effort was even worth it?? What happens when I have an issue with the card and I actually need some customer support?

Did you record the calls for us to hear the playback?
I have not called since April,2013 and it has gone really well.

UPDATE:

==> Received 3 emails on the supposedly cancelled application # with various states of approval mentioned :(
==> Received Sig card late last week (with only a few months until expiry date (same expiry date as current platinum) :D
==> T&Cs show normal fee for primary cardholder and zero fee for additional cards (matches what operator told me - to call and get fee-free for life offer activated - see above)

OK, what is the betting?

Will call last more/less than 30 minutes?
Will first operator do what they are supposed to be going to do?
Will Citi bask itself in glory? :(

Please quote odds as 1/X so I can lay off my blood pressure costs....

I rang up the other week, threatened to close my existing account unless it was made fee-free for life. They agreed. Took less than 10 minutes.

I am in a similar position as this, so was very surprised when mine went through within 24 hours. I didn't hide the situation, for example the business address and home address were the same.

Bah.

Had my platinum for 6 months.

Rang up to try and move to Signature (as they told me on the phone I could *try* when I was going through the application process)... eventually got pushed along to a third operator who informed me that they could put in an application for the Signature under Family & Friends, but I couldn't move from Platinum family&friends to Signature family & friends .

Was going to cancel my card as its obviously not connected to QFF, but, will leave it just sitting there gathering dust instead. If I had the signature, it would actually be my primary card that gets all non-work-reimbursable expenses, but alas.
