Assume the seats will be renumbered from SQs somewhat odd format J (rows 11-13) and Y (rows 41-65)

Wonder where and when it picked up the fresh white paint job. Surely efficiency would have it just being repainted once.

Might relate to the timing of the end of the SQ lease and purchase / lease by QF. If it was technically still owned by the lessor QF may not have wanted it in their livery yet, similar to how QF remove their titles / roo when they send some aircraft over to the US for scrapping.
 
Possibly. Think both MGK and MGL (still there) spent some time in KUL awaiting a new home, so maybe repainted before being given to lessor.

A great example of why airlines typically don't make short term fleet planning decisions like this, favouring sticking with their long term plans. Heavy maintenance schedules are mapped out well in advance, limiting ad hoc work to more pressing AOG issues.

A lot of heavy maintenance is typically scheduled September to November to maximise fleet availability for December and January, so XZQ simply has to wait its turn.

Not necessarily. Depends on lease terms but also whatever work is done pre-delivery gets capitalised into the lease which can result in downstream tax or financial reporting complications. I suspect they want as little as possible capitalised into the lease.

My experience is that most larger lessees can get the work done cheaper and better quality themselves or through own suppliers. Also, even if it's delivered with all work completed there's still an extensive EIS maintenance visit to get the everything logged into QF's systems and ensure SOP and manuals aligned (this is especially coughbersome for aircraft that might have slight differences to existing fleet). If this gets rushed you tend to find very poor dispatch reliability in first few months as every dispatch ends up with a myriad of paperwork delays since line staff won't be finding things in the same place.
