Virgin Blue > News and Press Releases

Tuesday 29 April 2008: Velocity’s hugely popular ‘any seat, any time’ redemption promise has won Virgin Blue’s Frequent Flyer program the ‘Best Award Redemption’ title among all airlines in the Asia Pacific region in the 2008 global frequent flyer awards, the Freddies.

For all our sakes, I hope that QF do even better and get the title next year.

Fingers crossed!!!

Well, it seems funny for DJ to say that given they're not the only airline to do so. NZ is another airline that allows 'any seat' redemptions!

[Edit: Forgot to type only so apologies for any misunderstanding!]

Yes .... but did AirNZ win the award ?

Does AirNZ have any seat awards on its partner airlines, or is it restricted to just Air New Zealand operated flights. As far as I know Velocity also has any seat availibility for partner airlines as well.

Fair enough, but they only partner (on international routes) with EK/HA/MH which doesn't really give you much choices! No point having any seat awards if these airlines don't go where you want to go -- or you have to travel via DBX/KUL/HNL when other alliances have more direct routes.

Oh well, at least I understand that QF (my main program) is planning on introducing any seat awards as well -- but again I suspect only on QF flights. However hopefully other *A/OW airlines will look at the QF/NZ models and perhaps copy it -- and eventually make anyseat awards avaliable across the alliance.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Going westwards you are right (HA isn't a particularly wonderful option for accessing US, but V Australia will soon come on line).

Going eastwards EK/MH/VS provide just as good options for getting to Europe/Middle East/India. What is the big deal travelling via DXB or KUL? Quite a few destinations that EK fly direct to from DXB, require transitting LHR & HKG/BKK/SIN if using oneworld.

Also MH have reasonable coverage of Asia, and travelling to many parts of Asia from Australia, perhaps with the exception from SYD, require transits somewhere. Intra-europe obviously not an option though, but there's always LCC's whose fares are comparable to taxes on awards anyway!!

Interesting re teh EK link - that would e great for me to get to DXB on my way to LCA...
