Just thought I would post some feedback on the change of website name. All working well from a user perspective.

I just updated my bookmarks in firefox by adding in australian and it worked fine. No hiccups and pretty easy (just had to log in and store the user/pass)

Thanks for positive feedback :)

Took quite a bit longer than I expected - lots of technical "issues". Still some problems we are working on regarding URL formats. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

But one more difficult problem is that the iPhone App is not now working. Might need to wait for a new version of the App. This could take 2 weeks as it needs to go through the Apple approval process. Looking at other options...

Could that be because not all features of vBulletin are available:

I'd like to feedback a negative (sorry).

As someone who has to type in the address (as I use multiple different computers, all of which get their history/favourites routinely deleted), it's pretty annoying at how long it is now.

Frankly, I cant see the necessity for the name change.

Save your favorites to a USB key as a HTML page which you can open.

I don't suppose you could also register a shorter alias, like aff.id.au for us lazy bums? (Or even better a gTLD for lower cost, although it'd probably be hard to find one that's unregistered)

The search doesn't seem to work anymore (it doesn't return any results).

Is there any way you could move the PC Mode/Mobile Mode menu up to the top of the page for registered users? That would make it much much easier to do the initial login on a mobile device.

As an internet entrepreneur for the last 12 years I can't work out why anyone would want to increase the length of their domain name :?:

So the next logical question is, how much did Qantas pay you for the domain?

I can't help thinking that a commerical arrangement was reached in relation to the domain name.

My question is who has bought the (old) name and what will it be used for?

I dont think its any of our business, no one has paid ADMIN for what must be a significant amount of time and money invested in this board since it was started nor is it registered as a NFP organisation AFAIK! The incident a few years ago where QFF actually pointed to frequentflyer.com.au as being the URL for their program obviously indicated the value.

To the contrary, it is our business. Years of social investment and peer to peer endorsement into a particular name. One of my other businesses is the largest social network in .au - and we went through a name change survey recently. 70% of members wanted to be involved or have some say in the name as they feel they had invested significant time into the existing site. Interesting results!

So short of abandoning the name entirely, that leaves 3 possible options.

1) Some legal hothead is waiving the trademark flag.
2) Someone made an offer purely for the domain and didn't want the database.
3) Owners have a better idea for ff.com.au

If I'm wrong and it's neither of those then I'd like to make an offer for the name being abandoned...

The thing that baffles me the most is, why change domains if you can't secure the .COM ? :S

That explains why you are asking the questions you are asking ;). We are talking a domain name change, not a community name change here, none of my business !

As long as it works and ADMIN does not loose $$ on his venture, my CARE-FACTOR METER is 2/10

I will use a black texta to change the luggage tag...

I also thought the same. Seemed a little odd.

And I guess the reason it’s still dot com dot au is because the point has to be made this is an Australian website. Regardless of the fact lots of businesses use dot com when they’re not American.

That issue is now resolved. Still working through the others. Other than the iPhone App, all is looking good for now...
