Sheraton brand is tired

Sheratons have never been my first preference when staying at a Starwood property however I have managed to get some nice rates at Sheraton's this year and looks like I will be staying around 40 nights all up at this brand - though I prefer to stay at W, Le Meridien, Westin, aLoft, St Regis ... in that order.

Agreed with comment regarding some of their US properties. Internationally, the hotels not so bad, and some locations there's even quite a wow factor at individual hotels (for example Sheraton Seoul D Cube).

Although of course the CEO didn't say the brand was tired but that some Sheratons needed to pull up their socks-
“We have some terrific Sheraton properties around the world and we have some hotels that need more focus on the fundamentals of delivering service quality to our guests,” Aron said.

And there are indeed some great Sheraton properties out their such as the SGS in Bangkok. Some though are not great. But this goes for most brands.

D Cube is nice indeed but no other Sheraton has more wow factor then this one in Huzhou:

Thanks. I was talking to my partner about this yesterday and suggesting might be worth a look. But I couldn't remember the location now I don't even have to google it.

Agreed. The new Sheratons in Asia, especially China, are actually quite top notch. But by comparison many in the USA and Europe are mediocre (but Bratislava Sheraton is a big winner in Slovakia!)

I'm back at Sheraton Melbourne for two nights this week and three nights at the end of May.
Quite like the hotel.

Cheers
BF

That Huzhou one is great! Also spent 2 weeks at the one in Chongqing, which is amazing. It's an exceptional brand in China.

There's definately a lot of them in the US and Europe that needs to up their game, if they don't I don't mind seeing them slide into a Four Points - I know that's harsh but tough cookies to them, it's their own fault. The ones in Asia are quite good and seem to be more consistent.

SGS Bangkok is actually a Luxury Collection Hotel ;)

agree, sheratons in the US are very tired (verging on dumps in many places) - i'd usually prefer something like an aloft or four points stateside

i had to laugh at the picture of the sheraton miyako tokyo which is a classic example of a tired sheraton (well maintained but with original fittings and decor going back decades)

I'll be staying at the Miyako Tokyo next month and have set my expectation pretty low, I think my room description says newly renovated - so I shall see what this means.

I'll take an "old and tired" hotel in Asia any day over some newer properties in the US or EU knowing service, lounges and breakfast are almost guaranteed to be better.
I'm sure your stay will be just fine :)

Interesting area too, not a shop or convenience store in cooee although they do have an in house shop that's not too expensive

ALANSLEGAL I will be there 3rd week of June ...I may see you there! My wife has high expectations for Starwood so 'hopefully' newly renovated is inspiring. I like the look of the 1970's Pool.

Very true I guess, plus very formal and polite Japanese hospitality will ensure a comfortable stay.

Hi, I will be there in July (next month ;) ) so guess we won't bump into each other. Maybe another time :)

Well someone has not explored the area around the Miyako very well.We can walk from the Miyako to Meguro station in about 15 minutes and we are slow and that is uphill. You pass 2 supermarkets,a 7-11 and a Lawson's.Though we usually get the shuttle to Meguro and walk back because it is downhill.
Also the great Japanese gardens around the corner.
And probably the best concierge service around. Can get you in to booked out restaurants commonly.
Would rather the Westin but if a big rate differential we are happy to stay at the Miyako Tokyo.
