The fare basis doesn't come into it as most of the ops people don't know the difference between a T,Q,Y Economy Fare. They just see everyone as Economy. They'd then look at the manifest and find all their status pax that are currently in Y to find who to move. I think it would come down to if Y...

Really the only way is to hope your flight is oversold in Y and there's no/not many Platinums travelling in Y that will be upgraded before you. I hope you get lucky!

Sorry to hijack but thought I could help. I flew BNE-LAX-BNE on a Promo (actually a cheaper version of the promo that I got through an agent) and got bumped to Premium BNE-LAX and Business LAX-BNE! Travelling by myself as Plat.

on the flip-side to this, one would think that when deciding to launch ATA, the cost of people 'taking full advantage' have been factored in. It doesn't take a genius to realise there's going to be alot of people making the very most of their entitlements so hopefully this was factored into it...
