    Iron Maiden 747

I like this shot as well. Certainly the way to do a private jet!

FA asks for headphones to be taken off for landing

I generally try to wear my Bose QC2's gate to gate, although I remove the whole cable from the headset for Safety Demo, Takeoff and Landing. I'm not trying to be a rebel but I find that I can understand everything far better with the background noise removed by the cancellation, especially...

Has anyone used Truphone? - "Our mission is to eliminate Global Roaming charges"

I've used Tru in the US and UK/Europe and in both cases been quite happy. As I understand it they set up local MVNO arrangements but manage the roaming between countries via their own interweb based backhaul. Basically means they can offer pre-paid local prices with roaming service. It also...

Scamming your hotel: insiders secrets revealed

After some advice from a workmate (who had a horror overcharge story) one of the first things I do in a new room is check the minibar against the list. At first I thought it was just paranoia, but the number of times I've found the bar understocked to the tune of $60+ is worrying and it's not...

    Bag storage in Sydney

Not exactly what you're after, but there are a bunch of backpacker services around central station that hold luggage. I've not used them for anything as large as a bike bit you might be lucky. Wish I could give you something more specific, but I remember there being 5 or 6 in the area last time...

ACMA crackdown on Melbourne taxi drivers with GPS jammers

I'm curious, what were they using them for? Was it to stop passengers from using maps on their phones or to stop some sort of tracking?!? A lot of the taxis in ADL seem to have a GPS map built into the job system computer thingo, so I'm guessing they wouldn't be jamming GPS?!? Odd. EDIT: OK...

How do you remain clean and sane when travelling in whY long-haul?

I know it's no help for Dubai, but if you're passing through SIN the Rainforest Lounge in T1 is brilliant. Probably my favourite point amongst the many things I like about Changi. No need for membership and shower access is only SD$8 including a free drink. If you have mre time SD$30 gets you...

    Home Network Attached Storage

I've been running a QNAP with two mirrored drives for about 7 years and I've been extremely happy with it. I had one hiccup in the first instance by using cheap HDDs that weren't up to running all the time, but replaced with 24/7 rated drives and it hasn't gone down since. Having said that I...

Review : Noise Hush i7 Headphones.

Cheers NM As a fellow techie it's nice to get a review rather than "they sound OK" :) I've been packing my ancient QC2's for years now and I've been trying to justify replacing them as all the velour is wearing off the ear pads, but they still work fine. I will say that I've only ever used them...

QF12 delayed from yesterday, now diverted to Brisbane

I assumed I'd see something here when I saw it pop up on Lifehacker. I'd post a link, but it seems I lurk too much. Regardless, Angus Kidman has a post of Lifehacker AU. Does not sound like fun! Have I read things correctly that some folks had to spend a rather short and tired night in Brissy...

UNITED AIRLINES - Flying to the USA

I haven't done that leg on UA since about 2004 (might have been SFO not LAX), but it was pretty terrible back then. It could have improved but I doubt it. Even being paid to travel I found it unbearable. Service, amenities, seat, the lot. I'd say "Like a bus with wings" except I've been on some...

Best Phone option for travel to USA

As far as I can see, it comes with $15 credit which can be used for calls or data. Phone calls are pretty reasonable rates. Data isn't as cheap as a normal contract phone, but far better than any roaming deal. I wish I'd seen this earlier, I could have saved $10! It's $30 on the TRU website.

Qantas Club vs. Status Club - should a purchased membership have any status?

I had considered QP previously as I fly a bit, but mainly low cost (cheers boss) and not enough to rack up the status. The product as offered was attractive to me for the benefits more than the lounge access. Thankfully I had read the small print on the "future of NGCI" which noted the...

Best Phone option for travel to USA

I'm heading stateside shortly as well. I've done both the roaming thing via AT&T and Tel$tra but only for messages and sms. Call costs were rediculous. I ended up buying a throw away nokia POS from Radio Shack for $25 which was good enough to make local calls on. Combined with a calling card...

Are there any night flights from any Australian airport to LAX anymore??

For a while I experimented with sleep patterns around the SYD-LAX run to see if anything helped with the transition. I found the best plan, at least for myself, was to have a long day with little sleep the night before the flight (not hard with an 0600 to catch) and push through until about...

Thankful for the SC I shall recieve, mourning for all those I wasted.

Greetings All I've been lurking for a little while as there's just a little bit of history to trawl through, and thought I'd throw out a quick 'thanks' for the reams of info I've been wading (drowning) through. I recently stopped doing a semi-regular return 'commute' ADL-SYD-LAX-DFW-MCO every...
