    Made any travel mistakes lately?

I did the same when applying for a Canadian visa, I didn't notice (like you) until the charge came up! instead of $7 (at that time) it cost me $180!! These scam sites are so similar to the legitimate sites, they must fool a lot of people.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

A big one, applied for a Canadian entry visa on line for $14 and by mistake booked it on an agency site and paid $137 for it!!! The agency site was so similar to the actual Canadian site and unfortunately I didn't spot the difference.

Velocity or Krisflyer for SQ redemption

But I don't transfer my krisflyer points to velocity, I book the redemption through Singapore Airlines and their system requires less points for the same flight that Virgin require. I have just done it!

Is Krisflyer the worst FF ripoff? [When using Points to reduce $$$]

Krisflyer is one of the best frequent flyer programs, the only disappointing factor with it is that you cannot share or transfer points at all!

Qatar V Singapore Longhaul flight BNE-DME

I would fly SQ every time! Much better service and only drop down once not twice! You can always join SQ's Kris Flyer and start earning points with them and they are generous with their points, also give 15% discount if redeeming points on line.

    Travel Insurance covering missed flights

The only way to ensure that you get reimbursed if you miss your flight is to book flights on one ticket, ie Sydney to London via Dubai, then the airline covers you. But keep fingers crossed that you connect to your flight!!! Good luck!!

    SQ308 operational aircraft change

That happened to me as well, I looked up the timetables for the day I was flying and found that the SQ308 was flying at a different time to the one I had booked on, rung Singapore Air and asked them to change my flight to a 380 as that was the plane I wanted to fly on, they changed it for me...

Assistance with a fare in my daughters name

My daughter booked a flight for her husband and had to cancel it, but Virgin allowed her a name change and she used the money on a flight for her self, it was a domestic flight so maybe that makes a difference? It was last year so perhaps Virgin have changed the rules. Good luck.
