Depends. Pharmaceuticals are often GST free, so no real need to issue a tax invoice. And asking for a receipt may not get you a tax invoice.

It's not on Qantas to know - it's on the retailer. The points should be tied to a specific purchase, and if the purchase is returned, no points should be awarded. That said, this is one of those things that seems to be a lot of trouble for a handful of points. And I'd agree if you are doing it...
