No more free items from retail menu when flying business

Here come the accountants, putting a ruler over everything. "Pantry Pig" will not be happy. As an aside an associate of mine has organised to buy almost a floor's worth of office furniture from VA's Brisbane campus. Interesting times ahead.

    Samsungs are gone

If your aircraft has WiFi, there's a free option. Some 737s have AC power in J.

    Samsungs are gone

Too fiddly, and you can't really eat and watch it at the same time. No point faffing about with them any longer unless they're sponsored by Samsung. It's almost 2020 - if you've evolved enough to fly J you've got your own entertainment.

    ex-VA E190s in Europe

Time for something different. Came across an ex-VA E190 in a flight review - LCY to DUB. Operated by Stobart Air for BA.

    Virgin Lounge Food

Veal tortellini in SYD last night. Sauce was spicy, not a fan. Overall a pass. Had more luck with the toasted sandwich maker when the lounge cleared out. The paver-esque thing is an omelette or frittata of some sort.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA989 Sydney to Brisbane, dinner. Chick pea salad, very nice. Rolls not heated up. Alternate was chicken satay. Cabin supervisor's body language said that they couldn't believe I had the nerve to ask for a coffee afterwards with 30 minutes to go. 4 in J, sub 40 in Y, not good enough.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Onboard VA924 Brisbane-Sydney. Breakfast... I call it Mum's savoury pork mince on potatoes. Quite tasty. Not shown is a fruit roll. Alternate was bircher with almond milk.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

SYD-BNE Friday 17/5 lunchtime on VA939. Feta salad with proscuitto, and the usual side dishes. I have to say this has been the best salad lunch on VA ever. If the flight was longer I would have asked for another one.

What's your experience of Cathay Premium Economy?

Worth every cent. Furthermore, CX are updating their 777s to 3-4-3 in economy... you don't want to risk that at all.

Please don't praise the hotdogs. I recall a few years ago we had a long and somewhat cranky campaign to get rid of the hotdogs.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Yup. People - just ask. A lot of FAs literally blink when you do, as in they completely forgot about it. Want something from Y menu? Just ask. As I keep telling my wife - you want something, just ask.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA are very good if you ask for more food. They often have extra snacks loaded in J ("The Pantry") or you can ask for stuff from the Y cart. We had in the past - chips, fresh olives, tiny sandwiches, tons of cough from Y neatly plated up. There's no need to go hungry in VA J.

Virgin Australia UpgradeMe pricing and success

Booked Getaway fare two weeks ago for Saturday's MEL-MCY VA1507. Weak upgrade $160, successful last night.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

If you get the chance, have the trio of dips. Was dinner MEL-BNE on Friday night and a snack BNE-MEL Sunday PM. Ask for some chips to go with it as they don't give you enough pita, though bread roll comes as well. Also, the salads have been upgraded somewhat, with a much nicer dressing and...

    Diet Coke is back!

It's the little things that drive me nuts ... and one of those is that black, soul-less drink known as Coke Zero. Super-stoked yesterday to see Diet Coke is back on VA!
