Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

So it seems the insurance will end on 16 May. My partner's mother will be away returning about 19 May. Trying to work out if we can take out paid insurance for the residual 4 days to provide complete trip cover, or whether the cover needs to be for the whole period. They way most PDS's seem...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

When we stayed at a hotel in Perth earlier in the year they indicated the 1.5% surcharge applies to whatever method of electronic payment, including EFTPOS. So on the way back to hotel before checking out we noticed ATM and took out the cash to pay them, just on principle as the 1.5% isn’t a...

    MEL taxi scam

The waits happen "offsite" at a specific area, not at the collection area. Same as taxis.

    MEL taxi scam

Was a few years ago, so I guess the $40 fare is a bit higher now . But have spoken to some drivers (after apologising for short fare) and they've said you win some you lose some. Happy to pay a generous tip to these sort of drivers, but not to a driver who whines and then once of the freeway...

    Jetstar B787 Reliability Issues

Or JQ43 via DPS. Or the next available JQ 7. Our experience in the last couple of years is extreme reluctance to put you onto QF. Noticed tomorrow's JQ 7/8 have been cancelled.

IFE broken QF2, what to expect

When walking back from toilets to seat, I’d estimate that at least 2/3 of passengers are using the IFE during flights in daylight hours. Overnight, probably drops to 1/3 or so. Although perhaps less on carriers with meagre content. I don’t own nor need a tablet and a phone screen is a...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Rex’s last reliable indicator of operating costs for running the airline was $300m (2019 annual report). If the government paid every cent of that - that’s the equivalent to servicing the debt on what a $7.5b infrastructure project? Or probably about half the cost of the Airport Link Rail to...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Tellingly, I've had more emails from RexFlyer this week than I did in the months of its operation.

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

Password format changes. Not sure if this has affected others, but no notification for us. Both of us had ! in the password and this is no longer allowed (you can't even submit to login if you've entered ! in the password field). Looks like ~ ` ^ { } [ ] are also problematic. So need to do...

    MEL taxi scam

You get the meter fare and for free you get a grumpy taxi driver and erratic driving because your fare wasn't worth their wait. Last two times we caught a taxi to my partners mother's place we got the complete guilt trip for only being a $40 fare.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Unless booked through a Travel Agent and the TA can do it, I don't think SQ can merge two PNR's together. However, if you're looking to through check bags, they can do it for you at checkin.

Are you using AI / ChatGPT for travel planning and while travelling?

My theory is take advantage of it while you can. It feels like google searches back in the days before excessive commercialisation. Once they start to properly monetise it with paid promotions influencing the results, it will be more difficult to get useful relatively neutral advise from (or...

    What cheeses me off

These days this is more common than not, whatever the alliance or lack of alliance between the two carriers. It’s largely driven by the policies of the first carrier, and not necessarily the technology . If you had been travelling from SQ to TP (or to QF for that matter which is obviously in...

Well, if they don't take cash, there should be at least one surcharge free form of payment.

The have really nailed the menu now, after the post Covid hiccups. Vastly superior to the SIN F lounge (not TPR) which is basically a glorified hawker stall which has a menu full of inexpensive hawker dishes and hasn't changed since it reopened in its current location in 2022. A variety of...

Article: Is Your Hotel’s Minibar Trying to Trick You?

I don't mind the pantry concept - if prices are kept reasonable. But invariably they offer products at close to minibar prices - but surely must be cheaper to adminster (less labour to restock, less leakage). Especially annoying when your $10 credit for being an elite members buys you the...

New SkyBus routes; Sunshine & Eastern Express

I wonder if it also might appeal to those in the South East, come February. With the Metro tunnel opening comes through running of services from Sunbury to/from the Pakenham line, it might be easier and more convenient to change at Sunshine than to change trains at Caulfield, State Library or...
