What makes a good airport and what's your favourite?

One thing an airport has to be is fit for purpose. What makes a good airport for a long haul transit hub is going to be different to a short haul /domestic hub which in turn would be different for end of the line airport. I think efficiency above all else. But otherwise, in addition to many...

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

That’s just in the name of efficiency - streamlined catering and cost cutting. Typical SQ in 2025 who at times seem to have no appreciation of the tastes of some of their key non-Singaporean markets (same dynamic that sees taller people struggle with the regular J seats). SQ 217 has...

    Jetstar Delays/Cancellations

Usually the 10 would denote a flight delayed to the next day, so as not to confuse it with the scheduled departure for that day. Once I moved to JQ 1007 (or similar number) which was JQ 7 from the day before running 26 hrs late when my JQ7 flight was delayed by 10 hrs.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

@Cruiser Elite thus sounds fairly accurate from the SQ originating perspective. The one common discrepancy reported on FT is the lack of ability to throughcheck luggage to BA @ LHR. Seems to be problematic. (But OK to through check to BA @ SIN).

Is it possible to return from SE Asia to East Coast AUS on day flights?

Nor would a flight originating in MEL or BNE.

Is it possible to return from SE Asia to East Coast AUS on day flights?

I think with the advent of inflight wifi, and more spacious and private business class seats, the "workdays" lost during flights is perhaps not as significant as it used to be. On day flights, those who need to be can be quite productive if they want to. Perhaps also one of the reasons why...

    InterContinental Singapore leaving IHG

Laurus is a different proposition, a Luxury Collection property on Sentosa, not a city hotel. Looks the (soon to be former) IC is not loaded up yet on Marriott website.

    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The tray service is usually used for “supper” service on flights departing late night.

Is it possible to return from SE Asia to East Coast AUS on day flights?

JQ have two day flights to MEL from DPS and one each to SYD and BNE. QF a big no from SE Asia. Redeyes only.

QANTAS security breach-2 separate flights were cancelled without Authorisation by my ex-husband through his QFF Account on-line.

Or it might be cheaper for them just to have policy that provides some “goodwill” gestures for the fringe cases for where this turns out to be a genuine problem. For fraud prevention IIRC most airlines have additional steps if you want to refund to something other than original form of...

QANTAS security breach-2 separate flights were cancelled without Authorisation by my ex-husband through his QFF Account on-line.

For 6,000 pts for the unauthorised cancellation and whatever the increased number of points was to rebook the flight? I wonder if it would be worth the $$$ it would to have a lawyer write such a letter?

Significant NAB changes coming; no travel insurances on most cards from mid-2026

So it seems the insurance will end on 16 May. My partner's mother will be away returning about 19 May. Trying to work out if we can take out paid insurance for the residual 4 days to provide complete trip cover, or whether the cover needs to be for the whole period. They way most PDS's seem...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

When we stayed at a hotel in Perth earlier in the year they indicated the 1.5% surcharge applies to whatever method of electronic payment, including EFTPOS. So on the way back to hotel before checking out we noticed ATM and took out the cash to pay them, just on principle as the 1.5% isn’t a...

    MEL taxi scam

The waits happen "offsite" at a specific area, not at the collection area. Same as taxis.

    MEL taxi scam

Was a few years ago, so I guess the $40 fare is a bit higher now . But have spoken to some drivers (after apologising for short fare) and they've said you win some you lose some. Happy to pay a generous tip to these sort of drivers, but not to a driver who whines and then once of the freeway...

    Jetstar B787 Reliability Issues

Or JQ43 via DPS. Or the next available JQ 7. Our experience in the last couple of years is extreme reluctance to put you onto QF. Noticed tomorrow's JQ 7/8 have been cancelled.

IFE broken QF2, what to expect

When walking back from toilets to seat, I’d estimate that at least 2/3 of passengers are using the IFE during flights in daylight hours. Overnight, probably drops to 1/3 or so. Although perhaps less on carriers with meagre content. I don’t own nor need a tablet and a phone screen is a...

Rex in voluntary administration, ending all 737 services

Rex’s last reliable indicator of operating costs for running the airline was $300m (2019 annual report). If the government paid every cent of that - that’s the equivalent to servicing the debt on what a $7.5b infrastructure project? Or probably about half the cost of the Airport Link Rail to...

Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

Password format changes. Not sure if this has affected others, but no notification for us. Both of us had ! in the password and this is no longer allowed (you can't even submit to login if you've entered ! in the password field). Looks like ~ ` ^ { } [ ] are also problematic. So need to do...
