Article: Live Music in the Qantas Club

Personally I'd enjoy a DJ dropping house beats, others may prefer a heavy metal band, operatic renditions or a country music hoedown. But whatever personal music preferences are, that is not what a lounge is for. Just like someones personal calls or viewing in public places should be done...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I have just called the customer support line they provided in the email. Irony of ironies, it appears to be outsourced, this time to Britain, and of course they had to ask for my details (apparently they hadn't purchased them from the hacker yet). I asked whether Qantas will be indemnifying...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

The audacity of the email, informing us amongst other things: Visit IDCARE's Learning Centre and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner website for further information and resources on protecting personal information; and Do not provide your online account passwords, or any...

Article: Live Music in the Qantas Club

I just had to do a search for Shari Ng thinking she might be a designer of particularly uncomfortable seating, to realise you probably meant "sharing" seats!

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Another one with full details leaked except meal preference, only because their system doesn't enable "contains bacon". Not happy is an understatement.

Article: Live Music in the Qantas Club

This must be QF's new modus operandi. First, non-consensual release of personal data to unauthorised third parties. Now non-consensual live music when trying to "relax and unwind" before your flight. What's next?

Article: Live Music in the Qantas Club

I had to check the date to make sure this wasn't an April Fools Joke. Seems like it's real, and perhaps a subversive way for QF Lounge management to address lounge overcrowding at peak times. At any rate, thanks to Matt for this public service announcement, I now know to avoid travelling at...

LATAM Airlines will resume non-stop Sydney-Santiago flights

If you are lucky they will be at the same price. But whenever I look, the LA fares are 20-25% cheaper, personally the QF SC and Pesos aren't worth the difference.

LATAM Airlines will resume non-stop Sydney-Santiago flights

I credit to DL - LA flights count towards both annual status and Million Miler accumulation. I think the same works for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and AFKL Flying Blue (at least status wise)

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

A quick way to know that this didn't come from Qantas is that it was missing the usual "Hurry! Act now to take advantage of this amazing offer" hyperbole Qantas use to create a false sense of urgency around their marketing campaigns.

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

I'm upset that my personal details are floating around outsourced call centres but I supposed that's the world we live in.

Article: Qantas Devalues Points Plus Pay & Hotel Redemptions

My earning of QFFP excluding credits cards is already at the rate which exceeds my ability to find relevant Classic rewards or get successful upgrades - and I'm Platinum. It makes less financial sense to add to the pile with credit card spend when you can get a better return elsewhere.

Article: Qantas Devalues Points Plus Pay & Hotel Redemptions

That means it makes more sense to pay for things under $100 with a 2% cashback HSBC Everyday Global card than on a 'rewarding' Qantas earning card for effectively 0.5-1.5%. More reason to let the airline drive your loyalty, rather than your loyalty drive the airline...

    What's your golden travel rule?

If it's personal travel, stay at a decent non-chain hotel. Turning up at a Hilton or Marriott makes it feel like a business trip. Because even if you make it, there's a good chance your luggage won't! Except on golden triangle routes, I always take the last BNE-SYD because there's usually a...

Article: China Eastern to launch AKL-EZE route in December 2025

The MU/QF partnership appears to be limited to flights between Australia and China. Even if QF applies a codeshare to enable AU-AKL-EZE on a QF code, expect those will be much more expensive than the MU coded flights - as is the case with LATAM flights to SCL and beyond,

Article: The problems with Virgin Australia codeshare bookings

Not to give VA any credit here, but at some point UA changed their program to only count UA flights towards million miler status. Star Alliance and other partner flights count for zilch in that regard, only towards redeemable miles and annual status. As unlikely as I am to fly almost 9,000SC...

Airports absurdly close to the city

Yes! You walk out of the terminal doors and, hello, downtown Rio de Janeiro. The approach over Guanabara Bay gives you amazing views of the city and the Sugarloaf.

Velocity 15% transfer bonus May 2025

Actually looking at my transaction history, the transfer bonus for the November 2024 transfer promotion wasn't posted until 10 January 2025, which probably means this time round they will come in early July. And Airwin you're right they probably have to accrue for them.

Velocity 15% transfer bonus May 2025

The T&Cs state that "Bonus Points will be allocated to the Member’s Velocity account by 30 June 2025". Unlike previous promotions, it looks like they are waiting until then rather than instantaneously. I wonder whether this is dressing up the accounts for the VA IPO, if they wait until 1 July...
