Help with getting a credit card as a sole trader

Probably aim low (28 Degrees? Coles? Amex Essentials?) so that some sort of history can be established during your first few sole trader years.

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

The agent was perfectly happy to cancel me! (Maybe they were tired of me nagging them.)

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

I've got another 5 days to decide. Really in two minds. Got almost none of the "benefits" of the card in the last untravelling, locked down year. The downgrade to $0 Essentials card or straight cancellation are being contemplated.

Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" - bonus points given thread.

My Explorer is coming up for renewal and a long online chat didn't even yield the initiative to suggest a downgrade if I wasn't happy with the value of the card as is. Quite surprising. If I hadn't proposed it myself, I'd have been on the cancellation path.

Usual time to credit Altitude points?

Thanks for your comment. I can update the thread now with more info: Westpac confirmed that adjustments are not counted towards spend requirements. Thankfully, despite none of the actions/responses being delivered within promised timeframes, the agent who dealt with the issue proactively...

Exactly the same for me this month.

Usual time to credit Altitude points?

I'm having a "fun" time with Westpac with a new card: first transaction got flagged as fraudulent, all accounts got locked, and it took two hours in a branch to resolve it. That first transaction didn't get credited as Altitude points until a manual intervention, listed as an "adjustment". So...

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Oh great to both of you, thanks.

ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I suspect Westpac would treat Beemit as a cash advance. Can anyone confirm either way?

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

Neither you nor I nor the ACCC have crystal balls. I'm not arguing with you. Was trying to be informative. As for VA going into administration, again, you have a special crystal ball? Or just Alan Joyce's talking points?

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

The ACCC sees it differently under the current circumstances (see earlier in this thread and others)

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

An update about the refund of a reward ticket (VA booked on SQ, flight cancelled). I've mentioned earlier in this discussion that an email was received on 20 March telling me that the booking would be refunded. Today, 5 April, the points are back in my account (i.e. 16 days after notification)...

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

Ah, if SQ hasn't cancelled the flight, then your itinerary is still valid, surely? In that case you presumably won't get an email.

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

From a consumer law perspective, I can't see how the airlines can only provide credit rather than refund for a "voluntary" cancellation of their own services (ie, not requested by the consumer), regardless of the original booking terms.

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

I posted about this yesterday. Virgin has started sending out emails about award flights on partners (SQ as well, in my case). Full refund/recredit.

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

It looks like today is "processing cancelled awards" day. This afternoon I got a similar email about a partner award which SQ cancelled some flights for a week ago.

No points for payments via Postbillpay?

I've just got my first statement for my Altitude Black (Velocity). No points were awarded for a council rates payment using Postbillpay and Paypal. Is this normal? (I haven't used Postbillpay for anything else in this statement period.) (The sign-up page for this card only lists ATO as...

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

Oh that's great to know. I literally five minutes ago got notification directly from SQ that the VA-booked SQ flight has been cancelled. I wonder if VA will be proactive in contacting me about the cancellation...

Cancelling [VA fare rules & COVID-19 uncertainty]

I wonder how VA is going to handle award booking cancellations on partner airlines, given the ungenerous attitude to fee waivers/cancellation in general. (I'm on SQ in a few months' time.) Seems unlikely Australia's airlines will follow the sensible approach of a (surprising) number of US and...

A chance to reminisce - who remembers the "old days" of Travel?

In 1978 my family (four of us) moved from London to Australia. We were flying Qantas, and it must have stretched the budget massively, given my dad's income. We got to Heathrow and were informed that one engine had fallen off the 747 in Bombay on its way to London. It was then kinda exciting (I...
