Too many tourists - local backlash

You mean like when you make the mistake of catching the train home from the city when all the private school kids are on it ... ?!?!

Too many tourists - local backlash

You can easily tell the cruise ship passengers … they’re the ones coughing, sneezing, probably throwing-up etc. I actually suspect the general vehemence WRT cruise ships is probably because of how much damage they do, they’re just filthy. So they get blamed for everything from beating-up nuns...

    Passengers clapping after landing

We had screams of terror when arriving in Brisbane, but I think that was a result of passengers finally fully understanding where they were.

Too many tourists - local backlash

I hope it’s still possible to go to popular tourist destinations in shoulder seasons & the experience not be like visiting the Easter Show. Because I very much enjoyed my trip with friends to Venice & to Paris & to Rome, and would like to re-enjoy (and with more than a uni-student budget) with...

    Passengers clapping after landing

I don’t know what’s worse … the Crocs with the little badge-thingies attached, or the fact that 25yo’s are happy to wear Crocs with the little badge-thingies in public. But yeah, I agree, it’s much better being consumed by an alligator after falling out of the sky due to being on an American...

    Passengers clapping after landing

Also the general feel of danger whenever you were out trying to do something … for example, you’re in a queue for something in a shop and suited stern-faced ex-military-security stereotypes from a 90’s Hollywood movie appear & usher some Russian mafia guy to the front of the queue to pick-up...

I believe that Sydney’s smile+nod+wave to the bus-driver, when exiting the bus, is considered as weird globally as applauding when the ‘plane lands is to us …

What are your air travel micro-hacks?

I have found that not trying to bring a machete onboard, and then not trying to use the plastic butter-knives to hack off the feet of the people putting them on the bulkheads, has resulted in a lot of not-confrontational air travel. Leave that for the airline-branded machetes that the flight...

    Passengers clapping after landing

My wife flew out of Sochi straight after the Winter Olympics demi-recently (2014 I think) ... lots of applause when the flight landed in Switzerland as pax knew they were now safe from the Russian regime. Weeks of drunk uniformed 16yo gun-toting mini-Hitlers barking unexpected random...

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

I have seen this done ... a while ago, prolly a couple of years, and interestingly given @DejaBrew's comment it was actually in Bunnings. I don't know what had been going on, I noticed the quite angry sounding woman at the service desk (a few checkouts over) who had been being fairly demandy...

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

I have a vague recollection that there may have been a ban on high-vis in the QF domestic J lounges a few years ago, my better-half lost her P status nearly a decade ago now ... but anyhoo, in the Way Back, it was REALLY noisy in the SYD QF domestic J lounge as a whole bunch of flourescent site...

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

I don't like carrying around headphones with enough mass to have an effect ... they probably wouldn't even notice if I started beating them with my earpods. :(

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

Let me clarify then … they’re generally people over about 60, yelling into their ‘phones on speaker; so if you’re anywhere near them, you get to enjoy both sides of the conversation.. People watching a video without headphones are normally under … I’d say about 30-ish. But I see/hear that a...

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

The “noisy on ‘phones in public” category is all baby boomers anywhere near me … for some reason they all want to have lengthy conversations on Speaker Phone setting, yelling into the mic at the end of the ‘phone. It’s most prevalent among elderly folk with Asian & Indian backgrounds, but still...

    Airfares to US to drop?

I suspect, especially given all the comments I’ve read & heard about their TSA & CBP over the years, that Bad Things have always been happening to people entering the USA, it just wasn’t newsworthy before the Orange Menace (“chill out, guy!”) started making really loud noises about That Sort Of...
