Achieving Gold - Please check my maths

One more question, I'm looking at a flight AKL-SIN. Sold by SQ, SQ flight number, NZ metal. Does this still count for VA accrual as an SQ flight?

Fantastic. That's crystal clear. Thanks for your help.

Achieving Gold - Please check my maths

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed. Yes, my SQ fare is (D) so I just need to achieve 4 eligible sectors rather than 2 pooled. Much appreciated.

Achieving Gold - Please check my maths

Would the following pattern allow me to achieve VA Gold status? I am family pooling with my wife and we just need one gold member so ... Dec 2019 we fly business class SQ ARN-SIN-SYD which I think will earn (120 + 160) * 2 (via pooling) SCs = 560 tick If Nov 2020 we fly 2 qualifying segments...

(Cheap) Air China: Business Europe to Australia & SE Asia (limited availability)

Look at Turkish or Asiana. Both have low thresholds to earn and keep gold status. Turkish has “quirky” customer service but their online systems are getting better. I’ve flown this CA route several times. The long stop overs do drag on but Beijing is a great city to visit for a few hours. the...

Which debit card is best overseas?

I am very happy with the Macquarie Bank debit card and associated savings account where you can actually earn some (token) interest. I also have a Bank West Mastercard as a fee free credit card for most purchases and a 28 Degrees Latitude as an emergency backup. Once factor to consider is the...

Feeling Lousy After a long flight

Going to work straight after a long haul red-eye seems to help. I must admit I haven't tried staying sober - what a novel concept. Otherwise - just time. I reckon it takes about a day per hour timezone difference to adjust, some trips much less but I can find no rhyme or reason as to why.

    Best in-flight meal you've received?

Swiss Business Long Haul in general. I've never had a bad meal and they do a great job of pairing wine with food.

Iceland was calling, aka This is not Africa....

Booze is the killer. Don't even think about a bottle of wine.

Iceland was calling, aka This is not Africa....

Try the lamb - it tastes amazing there. Because of the cold it has more fat and fat = flavour. And if you're adventurous the puffin bird and rancid shark are … well … interesting. I remember the local art and you will see many bizarre sculptures - many of which don't make much sense, well to me...

New adventures [Asia, Europe, & Iceland] – Part 1

We did a similar looking Bangkok food tour on tuk tuks and it was great fun. So much food! and delicious. We ended up leaving before the last course because we just couldn't fit another thing in. Great photos - thanks for sharing.

SAS Lounge access at St Petersburg, RU

True. I did this on my very first flight out of Stockholm. I exited back through immigration explaining to the agent why and they just put a mark through my exit stamp and all was good.

    Where to sell Azerbaijan Manat

I normally plan my travel currencies pretty well but on a recent trip I came back with some Azerbaijan Manat. Not too many, but unless I need a bookmark they aren't much good to me. Can anybody suggest a place that would buy Azerbaijan Manat notes? Preferably in Sydney but I'll soon be...

Cash Advances while overseas - Debit Cards?

+1 for the Macquarie Account. It also has a great app which is excellent for managing your account and alerts when a purchase is made (or funds transferred). I now use the Savings Account as my central account for all banking thanks to the interest they pay. So far - great customer service too.

    Star Alliance program selection help

I'm in a similar position to the OP. I'm currently with TK and since IST is one of your airports they might be a good choice for you too. 37,500 miles per two year period for Gold requalification, some sweet economy to business upgrade miles rewards (on TK metal) BUT their call centre can be...

SAS Lounge access at St Petersburg, RU

Yes - I've been caught out at Barcelona through the same cost cutting. There is a list of such airports here: SAS Is Cutting Some Lounge Access, But You Can Still Get In

    Pet airport lounge hates

Any music / videos / phone calls / games on devices without headsets. It's not hard, the devices come with headsets included. The parents of poorly controlled kids. U.S. lounges with staffed bars. Instead of just grabbing a drink from the fridge you have to wait in line, ask about what drinks...

Redemption under maiden or married name?

I had a SQ flight booked last year in my wife's married name but her country of birth couldn't organise her name change and new passport in time. Fortunately SQ changed the revenue ticket back to her maiden name without charge. I was very thankful for this. In their communication with me they...

    Locking luggage

We use suitcases that have TSA locks built in to the body of the case and the zip tags lock in to them and we add luggage straps in case the zip fails. No problems at all until our recent trip back from the US. At checkin we were told to remove the luggage straps (we were flying LH) and at our...
