Virgin Australia to Reconfigure 737 Fleet - Spend $110M

Curious if anyone can comment. What kind of things would CASA be looking for before approving the fitting of divider screens or the curtain? Genuine responses only - no "bureaucracy is as bureaucracy does" BS

    Virgin Australia flights to Doha

How many is "plenty"? What you might have ascertained is that upgrades are not merely space-available. I wonder if the decision to upgrade based on space may be based on fare type (including specific bucket) and status, amongst some other factors (e.g. sudden no shows, space for Platinums to...

Qantas to outsource ground handling across Australia

This is the thing - what kinds of penalties, and against who? The penalty was doled out to the  company, not Mr Alan Joyce or anyone specifically. Banning from directorships would be worthwhile if only it may protect the next company, not really imposing anything on the perpetrator. But then...

    What cheeses me off

Sorry, should have been more clear about this. I don't know about being required (nothing, except give way to the right and those on the roundabout, is required), but I think, as was taught to me by my driving instructor ages ago, people  should be always indicating left to exit the roundabout...

    What cheeses me off

WCMO people who don't or incorrectly use indicators while on a roundabout. Those WCMO includes those who fail to indicate left to get off the roundabout, including if you were going straight. Then there are those people who change their mind on which exit to go to while on the roundabout.

Qantas to outsource ground handling across Australia

What would be a greater disincentive? Force shut down the company for a period of time (a sort of corporate or business prison)? Imprison the entire board? What does the TWU do with $50M? I assume the other $40M goes to employees, or is that punitive (i.e. goes to the government)?

    Grammar Discussions

In this episode of Let's Be Pedantic... (yellow) To say "$12 AUD"... AUD means "Australian Dollar" (or Dollars), which reads awkwardly with the $ sign as well. It would be more correct to write AUD 12 or even A$12 (not official, might be confused, but could be understood). (blue) Slash is...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

Flexi Economy, particularly the most expensive bucket (called Y), can often be more expensive than Business, unless you're comparing the highest Business bucket against any other Economy bucket. The attractiveness is that if Business is cheaper than Flexi Economy, you might as well purchase...

Emirates to ban using power banks onboard from 1 October, 2025

Some Y seats have sockets, but quite a few still don't, or they are shared between people. They're also often placed at rather inconvenient to reach places; I guess I'm speaking more for myself as a fat, rather inflexible person. The supplied USB port is usually 10 W, which is usually only...

Emirates to ban using power banks onboard from 1 October, 2025

This is a fair point. Now with power banks getting a lot more scrutiny on travels, it shouldn't be hard to put this info on the power bank. I know it's a "simple calculation", but still... (this also removes the human factor on the part of any checking officer who may make a mistake doing the...

Scoot TR fixed award chart now live

Note that TR awards are the same as Basic fares, i.e. absolutely no mod cons at all. For SIN/KUL, the 1.5k KF miles would replace as little as SGD 10 of regular cash fare on some days; when the fares are higher, I wonder how many redemptions (let alone Saver) would be left. Still, better than...

Qantas adds interline with Sharp Airlines

So you can buy a ticket, for example, King Island to mainland on Sharp connecting to a Qantas service, all on one ticket. Does that mean Sharp and/or Qantas will protect you on such tickets if you misconnect due to delays? What about checked baggage transfer? (Likely means the most restrictive...

    MEL short overnight

For your sanity, I'd say get a hotel room - Novotel, Holiday Inn, ibis budget, whatever. Not too far, of course. Probably will cost a fair chunk for a few hours sleep, but staying in the terminal is going to feel worse, unless you are a true night owl.
