Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

I'd keep my fee free credit cards (if they stay fee free) and ditch any others, such as Amex. Let's wait and see what really happens with these proposals.

But it's Qantas, what do you expect?

Electronic authorisation required for EU travel from 2025

Here's perhaps a slightly more down to earth article on what's going on with EU Land. https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/etias-eu-entry-exit-system-british-tourists-travel-rules-b2716029.html Yes, the updated proposed fee is a bit of a turn off, but it won't bother me or my...

    QANTAS Cyber Incident

Sounds like someone is trying to break into your account. I've had similar with a couple of bank accounts and this prompted me to immediately change my passwords.

    Made any travel mistakes lately?

And probably a lot of heartache.

Article: Should Airlines Keep Lounges Open for Delayed Flights?

I was in the CX HKG "The Wing" First Class Lounge earlier this year in the early hours of the morning, expecting to get kicked out at the posted closing time of 02:30. However, there was a delay to the CX flight to New York, so they kept the lounge open until that flight was boarding, which...

    (annoying) visa questions

It's not that tiny, and it can be a fair walk from the Schengen area to the non-Schengen gates, not to mention that you will have to negotiate passport control on the way. One would have to hope that the incoming flight is reasonably on time...

Chargeable seating in BA business class......Really?

I think you'll find that you can't change the FF Number if making an Avios award booking (as I was). It just defaults to your BAC Number. Paid bookings you can change no problem. Anyway, I don't mind calling the UK call centre in Newcastle and speaking to one of the nice helpful ladies there.

    Paper towels enhanced from lounges?

Never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

I imagine that the number would be slightly less for Canadian citizens.

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

I think we could add Qld, Vic, Tas and NT to that.

    Ubank "Enhancements" Incoming - 15/7/25 & 1/10/25

As a result of these changes, we've now moved out of ubank, as they're no longer all that competitive for balances <$250K. The 4-month welcome deal with Bankwest at 5.15% looks quite attractive though.

    Oman Air Vs QR business

Given the choice, I'd probably choose QR on most days. Hard product wise there isn't a huge difference, although I prefer the Q-Suite. Soft product wise, it depends on the crew. You can have good and not so good on either airline, although WY are perhaps a little more consistent as they don't...

Chargeable seating in BA business class......Really?

I've just booked business for a BA flight in J LHR- PSA. Based on my BA status the system wanted GBP30 for me to select a seat (there is no fare choice in J), so I rang the BA Newcastle call cenre and asked them to enter my QF number, and all was fixed (free seat assignment). You can't change...

Article: The Difference a Foot Net Makes on a Long-Haul Flight

Well, I've used the cubes on several airlines and never had a problem (if at the bulkhead). Perhaps you could let us know which airlines ban it.

Article: My First Cruise: Would I Book Another One?

I think that cruise ships are destroying many places of interest and historical significance, such as Venice, and making it more difficult for regular travellers who just want to appreciate somewhere for what it is. Day stays, disgorging thousand of peope to some idyllic spot isn't going to...

Card payment sucharges banned in Australia from 2026

I agree completely. IMO, frequent flyer benefits should mostly come from frequent flying. This credit card sign up bonus thing has got completely out of control. Just look at the USA.

Article: The Difference a Foot Net Makes on a Long-Haul Flight

When I fly PY (not on Qantas though), I select a bulkhead seat and use an inflatable cube to rest my feet on. These inflatable cubes have a fabric-like texture and can be packed down to next to nothing and easily packed in your carry-on. I saw a lady on a long haul JAL flight doing that and...

Will you still earn/retain Velocity status beyond 2025?

Indeed, and that's why I won't be either elite or spending with them shortly. Where VA (Bain) have miscalculated, is that Australia is not the USA, and what works there won't necessarily work here. It will be fun to watch...
