    Qantas' New A321XLR

Just another example of how Qantas prioritizes cost over customer safety.

    The Operational Upgrade Thread

I've never had an op up from Qantas either, but as QF OWE, I've had several from BA out of LHR. In the past I've also been upgraded directly from Y to F by UA on a 3-class transpac (747), and most recently, last year, from J to F on EY (787), based on my VA Platinum status. Not that VA have...

Qantas to outsource ground handling across Australia

Well, of course, what else would they do? So imposing such a large fine is actually counterproductive as it will hurt the average Australian. No disincentive at all.

Pets in the Cabin - Coming soon on Virgin Australia

Well, OK, I guess from what you say you're not a fan of pets. One example of animals in aircraft cabins I can relate to you, where I had a personal experience of literally sitting next to a large dog on a plane, will possibly make you cringe then. I was on a UA 737 flight to DEN sitting in...

Major changes to Velocity Frequent Flyer announced 17/10/24

I'd be struggling to understand that. And what about the goldfish bowl syndrome, where all and sundry can gawk at you having your lovely meal?

We’re launching a Qantas Status Run service + free giveaway

TI thought the max you could roll over was 100.

Feedback on the AFF website & brand refresh

It would be nice if there were an integrated backround spell checker. It would likely prevent a lot of fat fingered typos in posts. Virtually every other bulletin board etc has one, so why not AFF.

I hope you enjoyed the smoked salmon that went with it.

    Oman Air booking issues

Well, that's good business. Obviously Aussies are prepared to pay these "taxes". But not me. Another thing to note with WY, changing planes in MCT can be somewhat of a hassle. WY may be fine in the air, but not so much on the ground. Their boarding "process" is virtually non existent (from...

Tight Virgin Australia Domestic Connection to International Flight

I think they may get less so in the not too distant future.

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

Well yes, depending on how discerning you are. Personally I find most if not all the stuff on IFE is not what I want to watch, so I don't bother with it. I'm quite happy to "cook" my laptop for 6+ hours, even without available onboard power (that's a bonus). I enjoy being able to watch a whole...

How to Use Up Qantas Points? Obviously not on flights

Well not quite the case in my opinion. As has been mentioned above, Qantas points are very valuable in securing business class seats to/from SE Asia (eg Manila, Jakarta) where one can avail oneself of a cheap but classy J flight to Europe (eg EY, EK, TK, etc). In this way you can indeed get a...

    AirAsiaX Delays/Cancellations

That's Air Asia for you. Gone to the dogs (more) since Covid. In fact they weren't far from the pooches before Covid. An 8 hour delay out of OOL cost me dearly. But that's another story.

Just don't put your FF No in the booking if you skiplag (or you might have some blowback).

Virgin Australia UpgradeMe pricing and success

I usually get $65 ex CBR, but always decline, as it's a short flight and I'm in row 3 or 4. I can live without a rushed meal and a drink for an hour or two, especially I can have them before and after in the lounge, if I wish. But otherwise, I can see the value for non-status pax.

Free upgrade to Economy X (I stole someone's seat)

My wife, a VA nobody (but UA Plat), unfortunately selected a seat near the rear door when booking the flight, as she expected to be able to enter and exit via the rear stairs. However, she then had knee surgery and was unable to climb multipe steps, so wanted to change to a seat nearer the...

    General Virgin Australia Lounge Discussion

    Airfares to US to drop?

Perhaps you've missed the point that potential visitors might be put off travelling to the US by the (reported) antics of CBP, and thus leave flights less full than airlines might have projected? I know that I (and my extended family) would not dream of flying to the USA at the moment, even to...
