    Sri Lankan Airlines Delays/ Cancellations

Yes, I have been watching the MEL > CMB and the CMB > CDG flights for the last few weeks. The MEL flight averages about 1 hour late, but the Paris flight is a little better.

    Sri Lankan Airlines Delays/ Cancellations

Fingers crossed for next Tuesday, MEL > CMB, then CMB > CDG. My BA leg CDG > LHR is worrying me a bit as I have four 1/2 hours down in CDG then up the LHR.

    Not Aiming for Lifetime Gold

I'm now entering my fifth LTG period! (There was nothing from QF on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but I didn't expect anything) And once complete, just to make it a marathon, QF make you do another 5,000 SC lap for the LTP award. I've done the projections and it's about 8 years away at my current rate...

    Conference destination in asia

I had more feedback about REP than all the other conferences put together. The majority of pax had been to the bigger Asian cities and never considered Cambodia. It was a bit of a risk to do a large event there, but it's created its own problem now in that delegates want to go "off track" now...

    Conference destination in asia

I'm the Chair of two international conferences that are held biennially in the Asian region. The largest one with 1,000 pax started in 1986, the other in 2009. Our next one is in 2025 and will be held in Kota Kinabalu; the last 2023 was in Siem Reap. The delegates were just blown away with REP...

    Booking Sri Lankan Airlines?

Taking my fourth trip to Europe with them in September. I always book through their website, although there is a little trick to getting the airport into the search form. I travelled with them when Sri Lanka was a mess, and although we had a hotel room, there was no petrol to take us there. We...

Is the Australian Landing Card Still Necessary in the Written Form?

Like most things these days (e.g., AFL, Cricket, Olympics, etc.), it's probably tied up in a TV agreement. Where would Channel 7's "Border Security" be without grilling the Asian passenger with a bag full of veggies? "You filled this card out ........ blah blah blah."

Malaysia Airlines - Can't input QFF number

Just make sure if you have the old 6-digit QF number, add a zero. I forgot to do it recently on one MA flight and I didn't get the SC's.

    QANTAS talking to the disaffected!

I agree, but I think, like you, it's been over a long period of time, and our stories are now the "fish & chip" wrappers. At some point you have to stop banging your head against the wall (Qantas) and get on with your travelling life. Also, like you, most of my travel has moved away from QF, I...

    QANTAS talking to the disaffected!

I've been sitting on the sidelines for a while reading this and other threads about QF, changes, gripes, etc etc, but I just see it as pointless other than to expel grievances. This is QF's business model!!! It makes money, and they "ain't" going to change. When you replace a CEO with the CFO...

Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

The "nonsense combination" is actually a basic electrolytic reaction; for silver, the black tarnish (Ag2S) is converted back to silver and Al2S3 formed. Hot water increases reaction times and the salts increase pH and ion transfer. Ultrasound only cleans and doesn't remove sulphides/oxides.

Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

Not a great mixture for those who don't know about acids and, as a metallurgist, strongly suggest not one to be mixing at home. The result is Aqua Regia which dissolves gold, so you may have no jewellery left depending upon the strength. And, if you mix them the wrong way, you can produce...

How well do you sleep on planes?

According to my Fitbit, I picked up 7hr 38min from ORD > HKG last Friday On CX J. Resting heartbeat was 59bpm, so it's not bad at all, but consider that a rarity. No aids, tablets or alcohol too.

    Unusual airport taxi/transport experiences

My favourite, but sadly gone, was the tuk tuk aka Remorque from the old Siem Reap airport into town. We held the conference there last year and I was picking up international guests and taking them back to the hotel in them, the USA people were blown away. Best part was going via Angkor Wat.

How did you feel about losing your airline/hotel elite status?

This might stray off the original post, but after cleaning the parents property, I came across some "classics" from over fifty years ago. The first one, the boarding pass; no name, just the seat! No. 2, love the V-jet 707, but not sure what the misc charge was. No. 3, 2 baht for porterage...

How did you feel about losing your airline/hotel elite status?

Although this thread is about losing status, just a line to go further; when you lose the ability to travel, full stop! The past week, I have been cleaning out my parent's home, which has been in the family for 92 years. Both are now in aged care and will, unfortunately, never see an airport...

How did you feel about losing your airline/hotel elite status?

I treasure my Marriott LTT more than airline status. And just coming off the trip to Japan/HKG, my daughter understands why that is so. I will make QF Pt again this year, but I'm getting into the zone of whether I ramp it up to go for LTP, but the $$$ figure is a bit scary.

Moving carry on luggage to another overhead bin??

Many years ago my mother, whose travel days are sadly over and now in Aged Care, found that the pax in front of her had put his bag under his seat, i.e. in her footwell. He claimed that that space also belonged to his seat and hoped mum didn't mind. He was not happy to move it, but once Dad said...

Best Way from BKK airport to Sukhumvit

Taxi or Grab, too easy. One "marker" to see if you are being ripped off by the taxi driver, the second mosque you pass is around the 18.6 - 18.9 km mark from the airport. I have on rare occasions, been ripped off by drivers, but for over 75 trips there, I don't think the batting ave is too bad...
