Credit Card Offers Amex Platinum Card Benefits, Offers & Discussion

Read the PDS carefully to ensure it meets your needs. But in general, there is nothing wrong with credit card "free" insurance - but like all things you need to ensure it is fit for your purpose and you meet the conditions of coverage.

Article: The Unpublished Benefit of Paying for Preferred Seats

This worked for us on 2 out of 2 SAS flights recently. We paid for exit row seats and both times the third seat was empty. Also on Air Asia flying PNH - KUL I booked an exit row seat and unexpectedly was allocated to the first boarding group - so a double bonus there.

Changes to how you use your $450 Travel Credit

Yes. I just checked my statement. The $450 travel credit and the $200 restaurant credit both show as zero points in the Rewards statement. Other credits (refunds in my case) show as negative points. So yes - you get the rewards points on the original purchase amount. As a quick data point my...

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

I asked about the requirement for a return ticket and received this response: "If you did not have a return ticket booked to Australia before the event that gave rise to the claim, we will reduce the amount of your claim by the price of the fare to Australia from the place you planned to return...

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

I'm sure this is true. It's uncanny how the amount matches mine for break even between CBA MC and Amex. Worst case about $400 is pretty cheap for year-round travel insurance.

Access to AMEX lounge without physical card?

I received a physical PP card just a few months back but I've just used the app for access. Not sure about Amex. Last access was with the card.

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

As you say - we're all different. I mostly fly J. My home port in Europe is Stockholm which has a terrible lounge and SAS doesn't provide lounge access (even when flying in J) at contracted lounges. So Priority Pass will give me an additional 4 lounge visits (for 2 pax) this year and a far...

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

Having said that I just decided to read the new PDS. It makes several mentions of "return overseas tickets". I rarely buy return tickets. I've shot a question to the email address in the PDS and will see what happens.

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

This (the increase of minimum spend to $4000) MAY be a deal breaker for me. I've been a loyal CBA customer since leaving school (and that's MANY years ago), I was on staff for a while, multiple home / investment loans, personal banker etc etc. But my regular savings account attracted no...

    Buying Air Canada Aeroplan points

Very interesting. I've been looking to fly AC for a while and have been pricing up a few itineraries for 2 in business class. Using the current points bonus I repriced them using reward seats. Here's what I found. For a Canada domestic itinerary the cash price for my itinerary was $4460 AUD, if...

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

No. SN with a UA flight number. I suspect I wouldn't earn VA SCs but it would be nice to not lose the points all together.

United Airlines new Virgin Australia/Velocity Partner

Apologies if this has been asked before. I'm looking to book a UA itinerary and accumulate points / SCs to my VA Velocity account. However, some of the segments are code-shares not operated by UA. How do you handle that? I also have a TK *A account which I could use for the code share legs but...

    Amex Platinum Australian Subscription Woes

You were right. I called card cancellations, explained why, and within an hour the Australian subscription is now working and I finally have some confidence that once it works its way through the system the Radisson benefit will also work. The operator had a Filipino accent that didn't fill me...

Stacking Krisflyer Gold/Velocity Platinum; Krisflyer Elite Miles Question

#5 - with Krisflyer and Velocity status, is it generally better to book flights under Velocity or Krisflyer? That depends on your class of travel. There is a great website wheretocredit.com Enter your carrier, booking class and it will tell you how many miles you will earn with many different...

Travelling with active Stage 4 Cancer

I travel with cancer (not Stage 4), declare it as a pre-existing condition and have even had it accepted by the company. (Sometimes with an extra fee, sometimes not.) It seems to vary a lot so keep trying. Best of luck with your health and travels.

    Amex Platinum Australian Subscription Woes

I recently acquired an Amex Platinum. As part of the benefits I've enrolled successfully in Hilton Gold etc but the subscription to the Australian simply won't work. I've enrolled, I get the green tick, Amex website says "No membership number", I received an SMS from the Australian saying...

Credit Card Offers CommBank Ultimate Awards Card: 100K award points – potentially fee free

I've had one of these for a few years and thought it was ok until I got a Platinum Amex and decided to deep dive into the CBA card to compare. CBA Ultimate earns 3 points per dollar on overseas spend only. And no fees for overseas transactions. That's the good news - and overseas travel...
