Getting through BNE immigration and customs can be the wild card, if you arrive just after a full Emirates A380, could be 30-60 minutes just for that. Huge queues even for the auto passport gates, and then for customs, last time I went through late on a Saturday night.

Within Uzbekistan, the inter-city trains are excellent. We did Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Ferghana Valley (Kokand and Margilan - don't miss the Kumtepa sunday market). Amazing sights. Sleeper train from Bukhara to Tashkent was fun.

I suspect that actually puts you in the high spend category, compared to the average customer. Which is why they tried this poorly-implemented fee strategy, to get rid of the very low spending customers.
