Yes - but I use it once or twice on long haul flights BEFORE symptoms develop with success. As do others. (Especially if someone is couthing/sneezing nearby)

Very interesting thread. I have had similar experiences at work with international trips. It goes like this.... I look up availability for (international) flights, find a good deal, get told by the TA that there is no availability, tell them that I can see the seats on the exact QF flights...

My twenty cents - I agree it is worth ringing - I don't know for sure but you could probably have a drink with her in the j class on board lounge if travelling on an a380 and not making too much noise (could she sit in the lounge?) - in my view, there should not be any problem with people...

Thanks for the advice. I rang them back (during business hours as suggested) and they have seated my DH near us. Apparently they (qantas) cannot merge the PNRs but I was assured that they would take into account that his booking is linked to mine and will not shift his seat independently.

I recently booked a flight on AA's australian site and could not get seats for my family together. On another site it showed that seats were available for premum passengers. I am QFF WP/OW E. I rang AA and they happily allocated seats for me from the premium seats.
