Hi, I am wondering if anyone else has had the following happen or can offer any advice -
I booked j class seats in the sale that ends today to LHR, returning through dubai.
Booking confirmed, paid for and tickets issued for me, husband and daughter. I am WP, husband and daughter QFF silver

Tonight I looked at the booking and my husband had disappeared from the booking. Rang platinum line and was told that they had split the booking and my husband now had a separate booking no (although linked). On the flight out we are seated together in emerald city. On the way back, I cannot move him into the front cabin as he is a silver QFF, doesn't appear in my booking and I cannot see the vacant seats in his booking (but can in mine). I was told that 'at the airport' they will sort it out. Will they?

I am not at all impressed. Any advice?

The premium desk should have been able to seat you next to him even if you are on different PNRs. I would call back later and just ask to do seat selection for someone traveling with you.

No not acceptable at all IMHO, keep calling and escalating with the Platinum Desk until they have restored the booking to one PNR. No justification for this whatsoever. What reason did they give for splitting the booking ?

You want it all as one booking! As nice as a "linked booking" is, it is not quite the same

If I link my booking to my de facto and I travel in F and only get him a PE ticket, is there a chance we could end up sitting together?

Well he's clearly not a very good partner/ex partner if this is the case

I would personally be calling Qantas and asking them to get you a J/F seat every few days.

Also at check-in I'd be making some effort

Best you also put in a J upgrade request too, which will likely cough through

J upgrade request has been done. Was discussing it with partner and assured that points upgrades will most likely happen before generally FF upgrades, they will prefer someone uses points than just give a free upgrade.

Well next time just book him in F, that would be easier

Qantas do random things. I was flying J with my mother (points upgrade) on the same pnr. We were seated together obviously, until we checked in at the airport. When we checked into the business club the person behind the counter noticed we weren't seated together. Silly me had assumed that because we were seated together just a couple of hours earlier, assumed that had stuck. She took one look at mum, who is legally blind and in her "80s and furiously clicked away and sorted it. She had no explanation for the separation of the same pnr.

And yes, lovestotravel, it was after the QM cruise.

yes! during the boarding process go to the person sitting next to your de facto and offer them your F class seat (which they'll take) and then the two of you can sit together :)

I had this recently. Myself and spouse booked on separate pnr's. Called platinum desk, got bookings linked. Could not see spouse booking on my ff account like I have been able to in past. Could only choose my seat, not spouses like I have in the past. Called a 2nd time a few days later, same result and operator said she could not select the seat next to mine for spouse as she is silver (I had already chosen 4A). I had chosen 4A for myself and when I went to check us in online for flight (a few weeks after all this) I was able to use my account, select both of us for checkin (bookings were linked recall) and 4B was free for selection. I don't know if 4B being available was a fluke or not.

Frustrating that when the bookings are linked I can't see both of us on my ff account as. Have been able to in the past.

Linking never allows you to select seats for the other person. It's just a system thing that just alerts staff to try to seat you together. You need to have the same PNR to see and select seats for the other person. On our recent trip on different pnrs I could see that someone was sitting next to me but not that it was my partner. Same for him. On our current booking on same pnrs we can see each other.

Not true. My partner and I travelled to the US in December, on separate, linked PNRs. I could see his booking under my bookings and could do seat selection for both of us.

Yes, there appear to have been some advancements made in this area in recent times.

However, not all agents seems to be able to do this properly so if it doesn't work you should chase it up.

Well. It was true for us. That's my reality. :).

That will only have been a recent thing. The norm is to not be able to see the other booking
