MrsOatek has a UK Passport and an AU one, so should be able to travel as a "British citizen" and not need the ETA (at least until it expires). We are in the same boat as @Pushka with daughter/granddaughter living permanently so will have to pay up or miss out.

One of the big issues with the big super funds has been cash. I was advised that when the Govt let people draw down during Covid some of the funds really struggled to convert assets to cash.

Was there two weekends ago, and managed to beat the QF2 crowd. It is very crowded with QF2/292/36/52 and a few other flights going around the same time. Saw they were turning pax away at peak.

Agree. In our case it is about trying to move to a single level dwelling that is not on the edge of the bush (the latter leading to endless battles against the encroachment of nature). Something comfortable and manageable. But we don't expect to make much money even if moving from 5 beds to 2-3.

With age 75 my next milestone, the remaining time to contribute to super is narrowing. I have met the work test for the current (24/25) year, but my downsizing is not likely to be until 25/26 year. The key catch is if you are buying a smaller property it likely won't be settled within 90 days...

An added complication can be the terminal gates for the two flights. My last two visits/departures in volved A, B & C Gates, and therefore 3 different lounges.

Our trips have been family focussed since Covid, with an occasional side venture. Planning for UK in May/June 2025, 5 weeks, with a family get away to the South Coast for a week in there somewhere. Much of the rest of the time in and around London with the usual side-trip to catch up with family...

It seems the DXB-SIN-DXB flights will continue, with new flight numbers. That means still good availability ex-SIN for any one who has positioned there on way to UK/EU.

I think they rely on dogs, x-rays or methods to target bags for inspection. But having done the HEL transit 5 or six times I have never experienced a bag check at final destination. And I have only once seen someone pulled aside for a bag check at the final destination, but not sure they were on...

I have done this a few times. Immigration is between the Schengen and non-Schengen sides of the terminal. The bags will look after themselves and have not had any real customs check at any of the Schengen airports after transit (eg VIE, CDG, BER).
