I ended up jumping on a US$1300 sale via LAX before the non-stop SFO flights got government approval, and then had the booking changed to the non-stop flights at no fees. Being a sale fare, it's not upgradable, but hey at least I got a good deal for non-stop flights :)

How long from now before the flights are open for booking, you guys think?

Realistically, how long do you think it will take to get regulatory approval and open bookings? Are we talking multiple months?

Thanks everyone, looks like I'll have better chances with a good old 747 then, even though I love the A380! --- Wow just saw the news that Qantas now flies non stop to SFO. I might wait and see until the flight becomes bookable!
