Jetstar increases flights from Avalon (instead of ceasing operations)

No international airline wants it, they all rather wait it out for MEL instead, even if they were given rights on a silver plater they still don't want AVV. It's simple as that.

Significant aircraft changes for MEL flights?

The A380's will be back for 2 periods this year; June-July (SQ227/228) and September-October (SQ217/218) on selected weeks. Right now no firm plans for them to be back permanently however as a consolation prize we are already receive the new 77WN product on SQ227/228. All flights will have...

MEL & PER APs worst in country

MEL are currently addressing these issues already; - New T4 will open in coming months to cater for demand/growth from LCC's, JQ and TT as well as ZL - The whole drop off/pick up area will be entirely revamped with the new Transport Hub - New Loop Road - T2 will expand into the current...

Indonesia AirAsia X to start Dec 22

CASA finally gave them the green light and flights are slated for March 17! Hopefully some EXTRA special fares this time round! ;) Indonesia AirAsia X finally wins approval to fly Melbourne-Bali

    Last minute: Easter getaway ideas?!

If you want Bali, there's a possibility XT will operate MEL-DPS by then as CASA is about to announce their decision. Once approval is sent, XT will fly immediately, dumping many seats to DPS and hopefully the others follow too. However if you don't want to risk it, it's probably better to find...

SriLankan Airlines to fly to MEL

Mega Maldives was proposing MEL-MLE services using its fleet of 767's, I'm not sure if they plan to pursue with the plans. UL602 arrives in CMB at 23:00, the next flight, UL105 to MLE departs at 00:15, however that would be too late for island hoping, you would need to spend the night in Male or...

SriLankan Airlines to fly to MEL

UL have entered proposed schedules for a new x4 weekly MEL-CMB service using A330-300 aircraft. Very exciting and a new OW option for Australians! SriLankan Airlines S15/W15 Operation Changes as of 13FEB15 | Airline Route

What does Singapore Airlines know that QF doesn't?

Remember that SQ is only offering Y+ on 2 of its 4 daily services to SYD. MEL isn't even slated to receive Y+ yet, and theres no chance the rest of Australia will either as the rest use regionally configured aircraft. These 2 flights are SQ's more popular services exSYD and command a lot of...

Air China announces Melbourne - Beijing

It looks like CA177/178 will stay at x5 weekly and will not reduce to x4 weekly for the moment, whilst becoming just MEL-PVG. Come 25OCT, CA will offer x1 daily MEL-PEK and x5 weekly MEL-PVG services, which gives CA x12 weekly return services exMEL, this move increases CA's presence at MEL by...

3K interline with EK (QF Code) via Zuji Booking?

Just an update: I did the flights and indeed the bags were checked all the way to MEL! Even though when I called up the man on the line said otherwise, the check-in agent just saw the itinerary and checked it through no questions asked!

MU's MEL-PVG flights operated by Shanghai Airlines?

Does anyone know why MU's MEL-PVG (MU737/738) service is operated by FM (Shanghai Airlines)? Ever since the introduction of 767 services a few years back now, the flights have been continuously been operated by FM aircraft; although the onboard product is the same, I believe the FA's wear FM...

Air China announces Melbourne - Beijing

CA will begin non-stop MEL-PEK services, operating x4 weekly using A332's, the current MEL-PVG-PEK service (CA177/178) will reduce to x4 weekly when the new flights start, the flights are expected to increase to daily from October 25.

    QF to Haneda

To be fair, MEL has suffered longer than BNE when it comes to flights to Japan! MEL is also very weak in the Pacific, Taiwan and Korea with no non-stop flights at all to TPE or ICN. Though pretty strong in China and Hong Kong overall.

    QF93 delayed

I heard the toilets weren't working! (or was it QF9?)

    QF to Haneda

I guess you could be right, QF has said they will use up all 7 weekly allocations by 31DEC 2015 - which is interesting. It also notes that the slots can be used by one of QF's subsidiaries. The timing of the slots would make it difficult for SYD though, so thats why I'm still skeptic, why else...

    QF to Haneda

Looks like it could be QF operating MEL-HND, whilst JL picks up BNE-TYO. Qantas joins Air New Zealand in Japanese growth, hoping to regain traffic from Cathay and SIA | CAPA - Centre for Aviation

    QF to Haneda

But JL is also planning on launching a 2nd Australian route too, so are you suggesting JL will choose MEL? ;)

Jetstar gates at Melb T1 ?

The terminal building itself will be closer, however the actual gates itself is actually further away, even further away then the current T4 gates. I've attached a diagram to show you:

    QF to Haneda

So I guess wheres the business case for BNE then if the market is more gravitated towards OOL? I definitely agree with all of your points, I too have done the same connecting routing and it was very quick and very straightforward, even with luggage its just a quick stroll to the check in counters.

    QF to Haneda

There was talks JL was looking to move SYD-NRT to HND and opening a 2nd Australian destination, again either MEL or BNE so maybe QF operating HND services elsewhere might make sense as both JL and QF would provide both options of HND and NRT. In the case of MEL & BNE lets have a look: - BNE...
