The ability to invoke siri with out touching the phone is the "hey siri" feature is ios8 only.

You can even have her read your messages and reply all with out having to touch the phone at all.

Its actually become useful for me now. If it's on power and on my desk and I can say "hey Siri" and it will activate. Rather than having to hold down the button and hold the phone.
