AFF Gathering #7 at HBA on 29 November - 1 December

Thanks Penegal, hope to make the next melbourne one(s) - shift work can be a PITA at times though.. I dare say we'll hire a car at some point (Tas) so might as well bring the sticks, I do like them. Doubt we'll need to check more than one bag in on the plane. Will put the Hobart trip to SWMBO...

AFF Gathering #7 at HBA on 29 November - 1 December

Was thinking more along the lines of lugging the things around while on a week or 2 away, not the ticketing.

AFF Gathering #7 at HBA on 29 November - 1 December

((feeling guilty for missing the MEL one)) - don't know how I missed this - Good time for us to take a break, and loving the Qantas 3x points on the hotels... Will put it to the missus, and likely turn it into a week or 2 holiday. We've been talking about Tassie for a while now, checked my...

    Lithium batteries in checked luggage

Since you are checking in the actual tools anyway, whack a battery or two on the tools which are checked in, as per the rules - "Equipment containing such batteries may be in checked or carry-on baggage." Carrying the batteries installed, it has been mentioned, is the safest way to transport...

Airlines slow to pass on lower fuel cost charges to passengers

Who would have thought, just like the petrol stations who raise the price quickly, but drop slowly when the price drops.. banks with their interest rates... do the ACCC actually have any power, or are they being paid off?

Jump to the front of the queue for the new Qantas Card

That's exactly how I'm seeing it BossReggie - anything extra may be a bonus... or not. AFAIK Qantas are giving nothing away at the moment regarding fees etc, and I doubt the new QFF cards will be "better" than your average Qantas affiliated Amex or Visa - otherwise there would be some awkward...

Avalon is poised to become Melbourne's second international airport

Not surprising - I wonder of a few of the farmers will set up off-site parking there.

Jump to the front of the queue for the new Qantas Card

OK, reads like it could be used as a Debit Card though - email states pay bills, make purchases, MasterCard PayPass, shop online etc.. The currency thing could be handy if on a RTW or visiting a few countries. Depending on rate of exchange. My last trip I was more than happy with the Visa...

    The totally off-topic thread

Hitachi are pretty good, as are Makita (plenty of cheap Makitas around if you look, imported stuff but made in the same factory as our ones, around half the going rate). If you are interested in spending some dough - stay clear of DeWalt (am I allowed to say that here?) - they used to be the...

Avalon is poised to become Melbourne's second international airport

Parking's cheap as well, betcha that goes up if/when it expands, and it's not as far from Melbourne as one may think. In fact I'd argue at times it is closer as far as time goes, than Tullamarine. I live about half way between the two, and Avalon takes about half the time to get to due to...

Jump to the front of the queue for the new Qantas Card

The snapshot of the email above states otherwise - can use in Oz. "Earn points in Australia and overseas". Can't see myself using the thing if there's a fee attached. I pay exactly zero fees on all my debit cards/accounts. Essentially that's what this is. Pretty sure most of us already have...

Great cubby/playhouse Shano - the kid'll love it. Great work. I'm loving my Milwaukees but they cost a lot. Took off from Sydney around 11.30pm one night - felt like such a rebel. Thai Air - around 10 years ago. Phoned dad (retired ATC) from the airport thinking I'd be a day late... He reckoned...

    Dickie Bird's Greatest all-time Test 11

Bit of trivia for my 101st post - I saw Michael Parkinson do an interview and he and Dickie Bird played 1st Class County Cricket together for (I think it was) Yorkshire. Didn't know that...
