A chance to reminisce - who remembers the "old days" of Travel?

I was born in Hobart and my mother came from Sydney so we had lots of trips in the 50's and 60's on TAA to see the grandparents. I remember the badges the hosties would give us and it seemed every time they would take us into the coughpit to chat to the pilot. I still to this day say hello to...

Over 1 million Australians have a credit card that earns Qantas points

Same here. I swore off using QF but then realised I couldnt ignore the nearly 200,000 points still there so now have 2 cards - 1 for QF points and the other for Krisflyer and I take it in turns to churn. The plan on the next overseas trip is to use QF one way and SQ the other.

Krisflyer J Availability not showing on Award Hacks SAS

Looking at flights from JFK - SYD in December 2020 there is availability in J showing on Singapore Airlines but same day only in Economy on Award Hacks. Maybe it's my search criteria but anyone have any thoughts?

SQ Availability when using Velocity Points

Now that information is worth banking for future use!

SQ Availability when using Velocity Points

Agreed, found this on Velocity site: "*The conversion will be calculated at a rate of 1.35 Velocity Points to 1.00 KrisFlyer Mile when transferring Velocity Points to KrisFlyer. When transferring KrisFlyer Miles to Velocity, the conversion will be calculated at a rate of 1.35 KrisFlyer Miles to...

SQ Availability when using Velocity Points

Happy to be corrected here but wouldn't the conversion rate be 1.35 KF to Velocity and 0.65 from Velocity to KF?

SQ Availability when using Velocity Points

I've recently been looking at J reward seats to the US on both Krisflyer and Velocity as I am building my points balance up for 2021. There is no doubt that award seat availability is much better on SQ than VA unless you can use a million points with Velocity. I'm about to close my Westpac...

New Ultimate Awards card (uncapped till May 2020)

True, I should have made the distinction between sign on points rather than spending points.

New Ultimate Awards card (uncapped till May 2020)

Or the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card for $0 overseas transaction fees and 75000 Velocity sign on bonus points. The CBA card seems to suit those who aren't big on accumulating points and want a low annual fee and no fx fees.

New Ultimate Awards card (uncapped till May 2020)

Very hard to get excited about this card. No sign on bonus points and poor earning rate for everyday spend. I try to avoid cards that earn less than $1 - 1 ff point.

British Airways or Cathay Pacific business class (using points)?

CX for sure. The BA 777 seats in J are hopeless unless they have been updated. Too narrow and lack of storage just 2 issues. You also have to pay to select your seats on BA (not cheap) unless you wait until the last 24 hours which is something that really annoys me. I've flown both in J and...

    EK416 Change of Aircraft

12 months too late for us but the EK 777 J seat was so much better than the BA 777 we had the previous leg.

Westpac Altitude Black Card Increases Benefits

Yes I agree. I think PP give you 2 complimentary passes each year so if you take someone else there goes your 2 free entries. I think I can live with that given I can enter lounges through other means such as the Westpac Amex card (American Express lounges) and when flying in J. I also have 2...

Westpac Altitude Black Card Increases Benefits

Received an e-mail yesterday from Westpac with what looks like a significant improvement in rewards and lounge access. You can now earn 6 points for certain flight bookings, 2 points for a range of retail stores and the same 1.25 for everything else (if only they would increase that). To me...

Gasp... Spend $150 at Coles for 9000 FB bonus points!

How do you get these offers? I've been in Flybuys for years but cant seem to remember seeing any such offer. I'm not a huge points earner but do earn from time to time. Maybe it's because I don't shop at Coles very often anymore due to moving away from their supermarket and now closer to...

Why a VPN is useful when travelling internationally

I have ExpressVPN and leave that on all the time and also find that I have problems with some sites until I realise that I should sign out of the VPN.

Why a VPN is useful when travelling internationally

True. So that's where the Chromecast comes in. All you need is an HDMI port and wifi.

Why a VPN is useful when travelling internationally

I used a VPN for the first time to watch Kayo overseas. Next time I'm taking a Chromecast to watch on the TV.

    Lisbon - Great Capital.

Train for us. A pleasant 2.5 hour trip. Go 1st class if you can. Not much more but you get better storage and seats.

    Lisbon - Great Capital.

We were in Lisbon in July and loved it. Try to stay close to the water where you can get hop on hop offs or whatever. Have a coughtail near the ocean but be sure to catch a tuk tuk or tram up to Alfama for the spectacular views and local markets/shopping. If you look around you can find a decent...
