Try doing a multi city SYD-LAX-JFK on the QF site. You can definately book these as separate segements on the same ticket. I've done it before on QF25 (MEL-AKL-LAX) However, play around with it, because it might cost you a bit more. But it's worth trying to do if you can get extra status credits...

Nope - I paid exactly the same amount for it, even though it was booked as 2 segments. Fuel fines and taxes for Qantas flights originating in the USA are only from $120-150 total. Also - They don't charge you any credit card fee either, saving you another $18 as well.

It's amazing what lengths Qantas will go to for customers OUTSIDE Australia. I just booked a SFO-MEL-SEA (via LAX each time) multi-point trip for travel in May (August return) for US$1233 including taxes (About AU$1320 with the way the dollar is at the moment). A similar trip MEL-SFO return...
