    The totally off-topic thread

Back in the days when I was a Windows PC and laptop owner I encountered similar problems along with a number of others. I took it to the local computer repair shop who told me to stand on a chair, drop the laptop for which I paid $2500, claim insurance and buy a MacBook. I took his advice in...

Are you a bad Aussie tourist

A few months ago while in a very pleasant restaurant in Paris a group of rude loud Australians walked in and behaved like they were the first Australians to go anywhere. They were loud, treated staff with no courtesy, sang songs, and were absolutly an embarrassment. The table beside ours said...

Travelling to Paris next March!any advice for renting a furnished apartment

As above I can also highly recommend airbnb.com I use it often in Paris and Nice when there. Quite a few of the other apartment letting agencies can charge quite high commissions, however with airbnb you deal directly with the owner and pay a small fee to airbnb. Just read the reviews of...

What should one expect from a full cost carrier when travelling J.

Agree with you there, however I would expect the same, except for perhaps the third point to some degree when flying Y. There's competition in the air now.

    USA: Tipping and Taxes

Earlier this year I together with a group of Australian friends and associates, all of whom live there went to a restaurant in North Carolina. On being seated we were asked to quieten down while the waiter gave a speech. He told us the system was that he works mainly for tips as that was the...

    Should I get an Ipad?

Agree totally. And relevant parts printed up and placed where the Mrs will never find it, like our wallets.

What side of the plane do you sit on?

I always aim for an A seat regardless of aircraft, because, as above I can lean to rest on something, leaving the armrest hogger to do what they will. I'll take a K seat for similar reasons but A just seems better. It can mean leaving the plane a minute or two later but pfft. I'll still be...

[Confirmed Fixed - Maybe Not!] No LHR T5 Galleries access for QP before BA/QF flights

Yep I know. Will be flying out of T5 on a J award flight on a BA flight as it is, but by then will be silver due to my lack of flying QF. QP members have paid for what they were told was lounge access by QF, AA and BA and it seems they are not getting what they thought they were paying for.

[Confirmed Fixed - Maybe Not!] No LHR T5 Galleries access for QP before BA/QF flights

This issue was first brought up here at least on 21st October 2011 and still going with little or no progress evident. This issue, along with the exhorbitant taxes payable, especially for J class pax really makes flying via LHR and then on to other European destinations and return less and less...

    Should I get an Ipad?

I agree totally for my needs at least. I've been a Mac convert for two years now and have a MacBook, iMac, iPod and a new 4S iPhone. When travelling my MacBook, iPod, and iPhone are enough to carry around and protect. I have hours of music, movies, TV shows, podcasts on my iPod and Macbook...

Qantas Customer Survey - five 50k pt prizes

I received a survey recently. It was asking what I thought of QFF. No offer of anything for completing the survey. However I did. It arrived a couple of hours before my free flight offer arriving. However I've been sent a few of these in the last year or so.

    Dear Hotels (RE Your Showers)

And I thought I was the only one who thought this. Every one of them different. Many memories of arriving in a hotel and wondering how the shower works. I have always wondered about this but could never bring myself to bring up the subject. As for American toilets, that's another subject in...

Is QF starting to rip points from unsuspecting FFers

Happens all the time. Be persistent and ensure you do not accept a Y seat for J points. Keep trying and then call QF. They know about the problem As for being routed via SYD this is also common and I suspect partly to recoup some cash via fuel fines from extra flights the booking engine offers.

Or those things hanging in front of you are to get away the stink from the bloody tuna rolls we are about to serve and served on the previous flight!
